'Here we go,' thought Natalie. She knew firsthand how awkward this must be for Archie but had never realized before how awkward it was for the other side too. She got up and followed Archie to a spot just a few feet away, where they would be able to hold their own separate conversation. It was exactly what she was expecting. In fact, Natalie had given very similar apologies more times than she could count. She was ready with the reassurances she'd want to hear, but what Archie did next threw her off. He took her hands. Whatever was prepared in her head? That was gone now. She'd have to start from scratch. She looked from Archie's hands up at his face.
