I tend to confuzzle myself when I go for secondary characters, but I like the idea you've got Vita, plus since alot of players have already dropped, there should be room for more students now, so again I see no trouble here with this. And...I do have to agree on limits to people joining clubs, but my fear is that it may hinder others from deciding a character, so that is more or less a risky action which should be decided by the GM. All in all though, I think what you said does make good sense.
