Name: Sadaet Kodana Age/Race/Gender: Human male, 32 Appearance: Tall, and with messy black hair and a trimmed beard that looks like it sees more care than his haircut, Sadaet appears to be of South Asian or Indian heritage. With a confident, matured look, he intimidates if he needs to but mostly appears to be a good business partner. He bears a half-sleeve of traditional art on his left arm. His daily wear consists of subdued, almost tactical cargo pants with boots and a fitted, modernized leather jacket. In the cold, he’ll wear a beanie and can often be seen roaming the ship in flip flops, shorts, and a military silkweight top. Occupation: Black market contact, electronic warfare mercenary Weapons: When walking out and about, Sadaet conceals a compact revolver in his waistband. This revolver can have its barrel changed to a longer version if concealment is not required. If engaging in direct action, he will utilize a battle rifle. On his hip, he wears the traditional straight fighting shortsword of the Shahani System: mostly for show, since swords aren’t great in a gunfight. Armor: Sadaet typically only wears a set of dark-grey plate armor under his jacket, purchased off the black market. Careful to avoid Kotayki military kit, this one is sourced from private companies and has the mark of a defense contractor across its chestplate. When he needs space to carry fighting loads, he wears a battle belt with magazine pouches, a few utility pouches, and a medical pouch. Items: Generally carries around a smartphone/tablet device which acts as the main device for his cyber and electronic toolkits. In addition to that, he carries around items like bugs, sensors, and surveillance devices. Uses a contact-lens electronic display derived from RKAF military equipment that links to his tablet device. When out in the field, he’ll wear a backpack with general equipment in it. A small drone called the Sentinel can be carried and launched for reconnaissance or light attacks with its small-caliber gun. Skills: Owing to his service as an officer in the RKAF’s Signal Corps and as a detachment commander in the 7th Special Support Actions Regiment, Sadaet has been trained in communications (including establishment, jamming, tracking, encryption/decryption), cyber operations (offensive and defensive), drone operations, and other facets of electronic warfare. He maintains some basic military proficiency despite the fact that he was never in a main combat role. Powers: None Combat Class/Role: Communications assurance and deception/electronic warfare specialist History: Sadaet hails from the Shahani System, a binary star grouping with a somewhat recent colonial history. While not the frontier by any means, the planets are considered “second world” and are ruled by the remnants of a royal house. Sadaet is from a well-off family who supported the largest faction in the system, the Kotayki House. As part of House Kodana, he served in the Royal Kotayki Armed Forces at the start of the Shahani System Conflicts, a brutal eight year war fought between the human majority against alien minority populations. The conflict dragged on as RKAF forces became bogged down clearing alien population centers and insurgents in the tough terrain of the many moon systems near the system’s gas giant. This would be a forgotten war, all but glossed over by the Alliance as part of “colonial troubles.” Towards the eight year mark, allegations of war crimes were thrown as the Kotayki House came under Alliance scrutiny. A peacekeeping force stopped hostilities and began a postwar reconstruction of the system. Investigations into ethnic cleansing turned up results of organized plans to clean the system of alien life to allow human expansion. Sadaet, while a member of the Signal Corps and thus removed from ground combat operations, was still a member of the military forces and disavowed. The planetary government was dismantled and his system was subsumed by the Alliance’s central control: Sadaet went into hiding shortly thereafter, feeling fear of retaliation by the Alliance and guilt at the revelations that had shaken the Kotayki society to its core. With the end of the war erasing the Kotayki House’s hold on any sort of power, Sadaet withdrew his money into secret accounts before Alliance government agents could freeze it. Many of his former compatriots, some more guilty than others, turned to crime syndicates to sell their skills. As a signal officer who worked on much of the “invisible war” in cyberspace, Sadaet offered his skills as an electronic warfare mercenary. His fortune was sustained by an expertise in enabling black market operations. He slipped into the shadows, to the Helios System, a known hotspot of mercenaries and criminal activity. Somewhat ironically, Sadaet found himself working for the Alliance as he was picked up by the crew of the Revenant at Helios Station. Offered a contract by Stryker, he tagged along for their first operation: an attack on a military outpost to kill or capture several important personnel. Following the failure of that mission, they were captured and confined to a prison ship on their way to parts unknown. Luckily, the Revenant’s crew was able to escape and run. While they are wanted and hunted, they are still alive. What comes next remains to be seen… Other: None (TBD)
