Here's someone for the road.
Name: Yliana Suthrah Gender: Female Age: 39 Origins: Yliana's family hailed from Placyl meadows, a rather well off city, and is one of the cities that are close to the border. It once boasts its peacefulness and its focus on farming and scavenging - as rare fruits, vegetables and a variety of other flora can be found close to the city itself. They were known for the alchemists and their healers - weaving magic into their concoctions to brew potions that are held in the highest regard across the continent. Scholars plunge into the meadows to find new herbs to study and hand over to the alchemists. Now, however, alchemists have changed their objective from potions to poisons, from calming aromas to deadly explosions. The one peaceful Placyl meadows has become more militaristic. With their close proximity to the borders, they were one of the first lines of defense. While their healing options are still being produced, they only take funded research now for new contracted illnesses. Abled men and women are recommended to join the Military. Noble houses who pride themselves in their magic train their children so that they may become commanders of their own rights. They constantly provide forces for the Saldonian Nation to use - all trained to their peak. There are two ruling noble houses in the Placyl meadows - one inclined to alchemy and the other inclined to the military. The House of Lishat oversees all the alchemical aspects of their city. They house the Master Alchemist and resides in the middle of the city, their household extending to a large portion where production is being done. They employ those that are scholarly and inclined to the alchemical arts. They are not to be underestimated in terms of fighting strength as their own way of retaliation is an assurance to a painfully slow death. The House of Suthrah, on the other hand, handles the training of those who wish to join the military. Boasting both skilled Force mages and Earth mages, the bloodline was one created solely for fighting. Their training regiments are harsh but the promise of glory always seems so close. Magic: Force Magic Yliana wields her magic precisely but deadly. She was called a gifted child with a magical reservoir that puts most people to shame and the natural ability to wield it with destructive potential had been the apple of her family's eyes. She is no stranger to launching multiple items at once, skewering or crushing those unfortunate enough to find themselves under her volley. Powerful enough to control even enemy's projectiles at her and her allies, she's able to redirect them harmlessly - or even stop them at their tracks and let them fall onto the ground without harm. However, fear Yliana when she is close to you. Using her force magic to amplify her hits, she's able to blow someone away or even scramble their insides if she pushes enough magic into the attack. Magic has become an extension of herself as she's able to fight and redirect attacks aimed at her as simple as breathing. Forcing someone to close combat, she uses minimal magic to move the sword or spear only a little bit so that it doesn't hit her and she retaliates with heavy punishment. Despite overwhelming power that seems to continue to grow because of the constant pressure and training regime that she is put under, Yliana has her limits. It isn’t a rare sight to see her cracking - on the verge of destroying herself to destroy a platoon of enemies. She has come dangerously close multiple times before she is forced to retreat - though the willingness to stay and crush herself to death seemed to always be present. A very dangerous side effect of her is that Yliana's magic snaps shut - disappears during certain times. She isn't quite sure what the circumstances are, but they happen. Sometimes, it disconnects one moment but connects back just as quickly. But there are times when she is magic less for hours on end. She is at a lost as to why this happens. Appearance: Yliana stands at a height of 5'4, small for someone her age yet the aura that she emits makes sure you know not to mess with her. There are permanent crack lines that reach up to her arms, glowing when she is close to her limit. These can be predominantly seen on her palms. Yliana dresses herself no fancier than a commoner, having never found the taste for silk despite her position in life. Wearing padded leather armor beneath her commoner's clothes and pants, she doesn't look like a soldier prepared for war. She wears an enchanted cloak over her at all times, provided by her family. It serves as her personal shield but she prefers not to get it torn. She also wears a pair of leather boots that are in good condition and leather gloves. Personality: Yliana wasn't raised a child - she was raised as a weapon. She was only rewarded when she followed orders but never when she acted as a child. Hence, Yliana had disposed of everything that wasn't useful to a soldier. She is quick to follow orders but has difficulty making her own decisions. When it comes down to it, her immediate reaction is to defeat an enemy. When she’s called stupid by them, Yliana won’t hesitate to strike them down - not for being offended but because they’re simply the enemy. She lacks the mercy most people bow down to, because she was taught that only killing the opponent is the right thing. But in this, she also lacks the ability to feel empathy - or to feel anything at all. At least, she can feel emotions but stomps them down because that isn’t needed in her line of work. Yliana struggles in everyday life. She doesn’t quite understand how people work. The only thing she was ever raised to understand was war and it was something she was already intimate with. However, the war has provided freedom from her parents and her trainers. It has allowed interaction outside of battle. Yliana is provided a way to learn how society works but despite years of being in the army, her focus on getting the job done and then resting and training has pushed back her learnings quite a bit. But she’s curious and that’s all it usually takes to improve. History: Born to a tragic start, the war has already driven the Suthrah family every reason to breed the perfect soldier. And so they tried again and again to produce results. Those who have not made the cut were still trained and sent off, of course, but with each failure came great frustration to the patriarch of the family. But then she was born - Yliana whose magical abilities bloomed at a very young age. Overjoyed by this, the patriarch had sent her immediately to training despite her mother’s protests - “She’s a person, not a weapon!” - and yet she was thoroughly ignored. Yliana barely saw her mother and the first thing she could remember is someone teaching her how to control her magic. Then it was how to use it. Then it was how to crush people with it. And so on. Whenever she would cry or complain, she was punished. And so she didn’t. Every time she successfully crushed a can and pushed a pile of boxes, she was rewarded. And so she did. From a young age, she was trained as a soldier who followed orders and so she became a soldier who followed orders. They lacked the foresight nor the care to be able to predict the repercussions it would have upon her. All they needed was a soldier, not a person. Yliana grew with only the faces of her tutors and opponents. The concept of personal relationships were foreign to her. Bonding was never a thing since the people she trained with are replaced regularly so she wouldn't grow attached and vice versa. Everything was professional. And when she was old enough, she was sent to the Saldonian military to serve. It has been more or less two decades since then. Despite her years of service and relative success, Yliana never took a commander's position. She was a good soldier - and perhaps that's all she'll ever be. Equipment: Leather Bracers - While not known to many, her leather bracers and gloves are conduits of her magic - regulating its flow. While even without these, she can accurately wield her magic, these bracers aid in that control. There are two black gems that are located on each glove, glowing whenever she begins her fights. Suthrah Crest - Nothing more than an emblem of her house that is usually pinned to her cloak but can be taken off. Enchanted Cloak - Having a greater durabulity enhantment on it, the cloak can withstand a number of hits and protect its user from the brunt of the damage. It acts as a last minute shield and covers her entire body with the hood on. Shortsword - Emblazoned on it is a crest of her family, the shortsword isn't anything special. Simply something to protect her when she's not using her fists or magic as a weapon. Typically hangs by her side and she never walks around without it. Daggers - Keeps two on her person at all times for emergencies should she ever be disarmed of her shortsword. Knapsack - Contains bare essentials like an extra piece of clothing, rations, two waterskins and some money for the road just in case.
