I sort of assumed that humans would be able to travel off-planet because technology was already advanced enough. At one point, I guessed that someone would be able to reverse-engineer a stray alien spaceship and use it to fly off, as that's what happened canonically. Because of this, there would be humans in far-off planets, but people like Negi (before entering Earth) wouldn't know of them because they are rare and usually don't pose any threat. Michael's mother could be a rouge scientist of sorts. That would make being on the run something that runs in his blood. Pretty romantic, eh?

Also, the Space Troopers are more of a privatized military force then an actual police force. Governments hire them to keep planets extra peaceful. Their scope is smaller and they're weaker, but they get to focus what they have only on their contractors, making them somewhat effective. Michael got the wrong idea, and that's why he got screwed over. I could come up with a cooler name so nobody gets the wrong idea.

If you're not okay with any of that, then I'm willing to change my character's backstory. Ciao!
