As for Polybius himself, he can certainly gather knowledge about what's going on in his own catacombs. It's just how these things work. Certain powerful beings have a magical connection to their lair. It's something I haven't had personally, but it would be useful to 'just know' if something has occurred in my shop without having to see it."
