Almost never seen out and about without his leather jacket, covered in a variety of bird pins. His undershirt is usually a basic T or a tank-top, and he has a preference for jeans over looser-fitting pants. Though when casually going out in warmer weather he may substitute them for shorts. Prefers boots over most other shoe options. Only notable accessory is a necklace with a small silver cross. Slouch walks with notable but not terribly bad posture.
[Personality]
Kenichi is a kind person with a rough exterior. Growing up during the occupation required him to harden himself and be more aggressive than normal to keep others off his back; Not afraid to defend himself in a fight, he doesn’t like violence always being the resorted method: Rather, he hopes to use his stockier and taller body as intimidation to get people to back off so he doesn’t spark anymore bad blood between him and the general Japanese student populace. His partial-American nationality is an insecurity for him, and tends to be one of the things to ignite his temper the most. He wishes to simply be treated as an equal, but finds himself constantly challenged and belittled by Japanese students forcing him into a corner where he has to defend himself, as not many people would bother. While the Americans would treat him better, he cannot find himself willing to hate the Japanese due to his own family, and the fact that before the occupation, he didn’t have nearly as many problems with people. These conflicting feelings on the subject leaves him arguing with Americans who show a lack of empathy or care about the occupation, instead being smug, or assholes about it. Leading to Kenichi being treated like dirt from both sides. Despite the above, Kenichi is nowhere near a scary person. Casual interactions with him show an awkwardness that he has a hard time getting past, as he is more so used to the loner role since the start of the occupation. Even if met with disdain or aggression, he’s willing to try to help those he thinks needs it: His resolve to eventually gain trust in his fellow students burns bright despite years passing, and this burning resolve carries into his willingness to protect those who he loves and values. Kenichi’s deeper thoughts are more cutesy and quirky: He’s not terribly smart, so confusion isn’t an unusual thing for him. Sometimes his mind wanders off topic or takes it to a weird place that he comes up with. Generally he shows an interest in what someone has to say during conversation and is much more respectable than his vocally aggressive front would have you believe. He has a deep love for all living things; But a particular fondness for birds, possibly because of the cockatiel duo he currently has as pets. He enjoys casual pastimes like gaming at arcades, and sports. But can mostly find an appreciation for the interests of any individual, unless they’re a bit… Too far out of his generally normal mindset.
[Personal Background]
Kenichi was born in America to a Japanese mother and American father. The ‘Ken’ in Kenichi is both inspired by the name of his father, Ken Richards, and the masucline Japanese name Ken’ichi written with kanji for constitution. The first few years of Kenichi’s life was spent in America, but shortly after turning two his parents had decided to move to Japan to be closer with his mother’s side of the family. Things were a bit rocky, but as time passed her family came to appreciate the boy and his father, and became a larger unit together. Kenichi’s life up until seven years old was basic; He had spent just around a year attending school and making friends, before the disaster of 2011. While he wasn’t truly old enough to comprehend the disasters, he was old enough to start being one that suffered from America’s decision to occupy Japan. Being partially American himself, this lead to a lot of disdain between him and his Japanese peers: At first it was mostly the adults who treated him worse, but as the years passed and things only seemed worse for Japan, even the students took complete disdain of him. This constant wave of harassment and hate caused Kenichi to grow a rougher exterior personality to scare people away when he was threatened: Fights became a norm, despite there being times where Kenichi was simply trying to help someone with something, as they seemed to be in need. They didn’t want his help, or to accept him: But he wasn’t willing to accept that himself, so he continued trying when the opportunity was there. It’s been a pretty hopeless endeavor, but he was determined; Driven to prove himself as one of them instead of just some ‘American’ that existed to be a punching bag out of unrelated spite. They were blind to the fact he was here before everything happened, and chances to explain never worked out. He remains hopeful that, one day, he’ll be able to enjoy a peaceful life in the city he calls his home. He strives for a peaceful conclusion to eventually be possible, but is ready to defend himself as necessary until that point is reach. Eventually, things would be alright: That was the assumed ‘lie’ in his own mind that he chose to believe.
