She dresses this way almost as a way of rebelling against, or mocking the Nobles and naval uniforms of the three continents, who she harbors a great grudge against. She also dresses this way as a natural way of hiding her bust and making herself look more naturally androgynous-- she's been on the seas her whole life, she's no stranger to the discrimination women face. For the lower half it's much similar to her upper half, often donning tie-dyed or simply black pantaloons in a newer bell bottom fashion. Shoes are a bit of a sore subject for her, if it's possible, she'll go barefoot-- if she must, she'll wear a pair of simple sandal or slip ons.[/indent]

This debilitating weakness toward women has carried over to her adulthood and in fact grown in strength, but she can manage conversation with most men just fine. Just as long as they aren't government representatives or Nobles or something. 
⋆ [i]Where on the spectrum of selfish to selfless:[/i] It depends? Elenei genuinely cares for those who share or are beneath her modest social standing, but for those far above it... she has no love. She would take a bullet for a poor child she didn't know, but she'd easily let 1,000 Navy soldiers be crushed to death. If she's being honest with herself, their screams of agony would probably turn her on.

[indent]Elenei was born on the ship Black Ballerina to Teora and Haki Melodiá Morena, owners of the run down merchant ship that did odd jobs for whatever colony it needed to to get by. They couldn't afford the port taxes of Aelvale, so Eastholt was where the growing family made their modest home, among the oft discriminated half-breeds and the forgotten. With this, and the odd circumstances of her birth Elenei seemed destined by fate to be different. And certainly drawn to the sea, since the girl was practically born with sea legs. So, it was no surprise that out of their 7 children, Haki invited Elenei to be hi first mate at the tender age of 5.

Of course, she accepted, and from here growing up on the sea was rough was rough and fast. Most of her days were spent learning how to deal with many members of the other races and classes to keep a smile on their face in a business dealing. Her father was strict, often making her lessons and independent study to master navigation even harder than that of those of the students of naval academies. But still, she couldn't help but enjoy the freedom at the end of the day, the sea always brought with it some new person with some new story; pirates, sirens, the Shadowmount Isles! She wanted to become a pirate after all the tales of glory and liberation she'd heard about them! She wanted to kiss a siren! And she wanted to conquer the those Isles!

In her twenties, she'd all but mastered the navigational training and techniques her father had been hammering into her since she was a toddler. So, like most twenty-somethings she fell into a slump, purposelessly delivering goods with her father, sleeping around with countless strangers for the ghost of a spark of pleasure. Elenei lacked purpose in life, she lacked a real struggle,and in a cruel twist of fate, she would soon find it. 

She remembers the day [i]quite[/i] well. They were privateers, not pirates, hired by the Strongwyn Government to boost their workforce. To scour the sea in search of vessels in 'violation' of any minor law and seize their vessel and crew for indeterminate work camp imprisonment. What a crock of shit. Slavery. Her father tried to fight. A mistake-- or maybe it wasn't. It's not really for Elenei to say.

To tell the truth, Elenei isn't the biggest fan of reviewing this chapter of her life. Long story short, all three governments are complicit-- at least from what Elenei could tell, she worked various jobs on all three major continents. For 15 years. Met people, loved people. Lost people. Met a girl who may very well have been the love of her life. They always work Halflings too hard... Anyway, this period didn't last forever, thankfully. It ended when a certain hero among pirates reminded her of her childhood dreams. The Pirate King at the time seized a slave vessel she happened to be on. An insane stroke of luck ended her 15 year stint as a slave and began her life as a pirate, and before she knew it, she was talking to the King of Pirates himself, it wasn't a long conversation-- she would have had it nearly 50 years ago now. But she'll never forget the advice he gave her, even more than the freedom.

She's proudly been a pirate ever since.[/indent]
