Even when skyscrapers occasionally blocked her view of the muscular lich, her Sword always led the way, its own sense for the blood of monsters sharper than hers. But soon, the steel and concrete of civilization gave way to a more suburban plane, abandoned houses lined up by an intersection. Vaulting over one of them, Amaryllis crested over just in time to see Mariette appear from a portal, putting an end to Billy’s escape and making her own bombastic declaration. A laugh escaped Amaryllis, the first she had ever since she returned to Penrose. That’s right, she couldn’t disappoint a kid now, could she? Landing upon the ground and brandishing her Silverlight, the Knight of Rose tossed her hair into the air, chivalrous bravado striking her features as she disdained the armed ghouls that the foul lich called forth. “I’ll be glad for it, Sage of the Shadowed Gate,” Amaryllis spoke. “Let us show all these fell creatures that the protectors of Penrose have returned, and that there will be no tolerance for their fiendish desires now!” And as Billy charged, so did Amaryllis, shooting through the streets as her Sword drew silver sparks against the asphalt. Sophia’s magical ordnance devastated the land and Hilaria’s tower shield met the army truck head on, two more allies Amaryllis was glad for. The faster they slew this villain a second time, the less damage the lich could do otherwise. Automatic rifles were just rifles, after all; if a civilian was caught in the crossfire, that was basically a loss. Stepping on Hilaria’s shoulder, Amaryllis somersaulted off the ancient magical girl and fired a wink at her as she passed. Already, her Sword was clashing with Billy’s own, the second act having begun.
