This made things difficult for Emperor Gestahl as he saw her as the perfect second attempt at magitek infusion, after improving their methods since Kefka had gone through the procedure and was driven mad. Solstice was barely an adult when introduced to the slave crown; A device that entirely robbed who wore it of free will and inflicted issues regarding memory when worn for too long. Gestahl hoped that extensive use of it would erase her morality over time and allow them to turn her into a more practical unit for warfare. After a few weeks under the crown's influence, she was put into the infusion procedure; Successfully making it through and having the crown removed during her recovery. She was highly confused; But Gesthal fed her information as he saw fit, insisting she train hard to regain herself. Unfortunately, Solstice was not the most competent magitek knight to exist: Kefka's power far overcame her own, and the crowned green-haired knight that was unnamed as far as she knew, along with Celes Chere, both proved stronger than her as well. She was destined to be a normal groundtrooper when even Leo, a man who didn't take any infusions, surpassed her abilities. She was saddened and disappointed in herself, accepting her status as just another masked soldier, despite being ranked higher than the true mooks, it felt degrading. She wished she was stronger; Something more. That's when she heard the whispers: A new power source, they said. Something stronger than espers, potentially. Something that could be infused and possibly enable more power than anyone in the Empire currently knew. She saw this as an opportunity; A chance. And thankfully, Gestahl saw it too. Even if he only wanted to use her first as a test subject, she agreed to attempt some use of this 'Shdw. Tech' Cid had been working on. Finally, power making her worthy of joining the highest ranks! And she'd be the first to flex this newfound power, perhaps being even stronger than that bastard, Kefka. Her excitement was unable to be contained. But, when they attempted the Shdw. Tech infusion, that's where things went wrong. A pain; Something coursed through her, whatever they were using in this tech wasn't cooperating with her body; Or perhaps it was cooperating too well. With her heart. The pain was immense; She shot awake within the tank and flailed violently, shattering the tank and falling out onto the ground barely able to stand. Alarms sounded throughout the facility, something was scaring Cid; Whatever was happening with the Shdw. Tech they tried to put inside of her, it wasn't just extracted from the creatures they found; No, the creature's essence was alive. The feeling of being so near a heart attracted the right of the Shadows from containment; The sounds of crashes and explosions filling the whole facility as Solstice laid upon the ground, writhing in pain. She needed to leave. To escape. She wasn't in fighting condition, she knew she wouldn't survive: As if with her will, a portal appeared nearby as pain clenched her heart. She crawled towards it, managing to enter. She fell into what practically felt like a void; But the void choked her, darkness that rendered her unconscious. All she heard before fainting in the dark were these disembodied words: "Abandoning your people in a time of great need? That's truly cowardly, and evil! I could get to like you!" By the time Solstice awoke, she wasn't even injured: Just confused, and lost on where she was. The instinctive reaction to hearing footsteps behind her in these badlands was to swing back; Surprise filling her expression as a mysterious weapon formed itself within her grasp; Clashing with the weapon of the man behind her. The man, Xehanort, she learned, could sense the darkness within her. He showed a mixture of amaze and amusement at the fact she had darkness contained within her in such a particular manner, figuring she could use it for great strength if she learned to correctly access it. These words were extremely vague, and though he somewhat explained what the keyblade was, and what she was here for due to being chosen by it, she wasn't quite certain of herself. He stated that uncertainty was a given; That she was obviously used to simply being ordered around instead of making decisions with her free will. He told her to travel; Use that darkness to seek clarity. They'd meet again when the time was right. She's been traversing worlds ever since, seeking clarity. She fought the heartless; Wherever they appeared, learning of their damned horrific abilities and what possibly happened to her own world. But at the same time, that Shdw Tech within her... She couldn't help but feel a familiarity with the heartless. Or perhaps a similarity. And that deeply scared her, despite her never vocalizing it.
