When the disguises fall away, the truth of a deadly warrior is revealed, a lean, but solid form with the easy agility and practice of a forged killer. Whether this is the true Maloran or simply another mask can be debated, few enough have seen it to comment on the matter. Somewhat unusually for his people, Maloran's hair is a pale blonde, often kept short, a matter of style and practicality. He could be considered handsome, but his appearance is otherwise generic, the better to mould to the situation he finds himself in. While he has a great variety of different robes, armours and outfits to suit the situation, when not dressed to a specific purpose, he will often be found in lighter, functional, robes, usually in black.
[sub]Simplified report on known Force techniques and estimated levels.[/sub]
Maloran's presence in the force tells of one with only an average innate talent, so far as Jedi go, but one that has been honed and bolstered into iron by exhaustive training and personal struggle. He has come to excel at the force powers expected of the Jedi Shadows, capable of acrobatic agility greater than most, in part because of his peoples' natural ability for such, enhanced by the finest training and uncompromising attitude of this particular Jedi. Beyond these complimentary powers, Maloran is highly capable in those force powers most associated with his role, force stealth, mind tricks and other such powers that compliment his ability to survive independent of the order and resist interrogation should the worst happen.
[sub]Simplified report on other known skills and estimated levels, including lightsaber training.[/sub]
As with many Jedi Shadows, Maloran is an accomplished duellist in a variety of forms, however he has two primary focuses are Ataru and Shien, the former to take advantage of his full offensive skillset while the later for when facing off against foes not equipped with sabres. While Maloran's force powers are built on a iron sense of self-improvement, his ability with a sabre has always been one of his greatest strengths, a fact that singled him out for eventual advancement into the role he now holds.
[sub]Quick report on political influence, associates and rivals.[/sub]
As with many Shadows, Maloran sits somewhat aside and aloof from the rest of the order, working as both enforcer and spy in equal measure he has few true friends among the order, even less so among his fellow Shadows as they are often the most pressing to observe and monitor. In recent years Maloran has operated undercover within Sith and Hutt space, and his variety of alter-egos in both settings have a wide net of contacts. As is the great irony of any individual long associated with espionage, he personally knows far more individuals among those he works to hinder and defeat than the Order and Republic he fights for.
[sub]Psychological evaluation of Jedi Order member.[/sub]
As a padawan Maloran had often been regarded as productive, academic and sincere but with little sense of joviality more typical of youth. While he did not necessarily lack for friends, he devoted very little time to the social aspects of life as a Jedi, instead delving into his studies and training. He always maintained a rigorous regime of exercise and sabre training interposed between academics and meditation which was encouraged by his master, the Jedi Knight Corvo Krin. The young jedi would mellow somewhat as time passed, never stepping down from the uncompromising standards he set himself, but more willing to engage with the others of the order and expressing a wider interest in the Galaxy. It was this transformation that truly set him on the path to a Shadow, demonstrating that the path originally anticipated for him, working within the order, was perhaps too narrow, and a waste of a prodigal sabre talent. Years of training and action as a Jedi Shadow have returned much of Maloran's severity, even if he can play 'lighter' roles, the importance and nature of his work weighs heavily on the young knight, pushing him to a similar standard of self-improvement as he held in his youth. It is perhaps a fear of failure and the pursuit of perfection that would be most concerning for those evaluating the vulnerability of Maloran to thoughts unbecoming of the Jedi.
[sub]List and description of known and suspected flaws. To be put into restricted database.[/sub]
Perfection or Damnation: While the Jedi Order places great emphasis on self-improvement, Maloran embodies this to the extreme. He treats failure as anathema to his very sense of self, ever seeking to push himself and those around him. While he is a practised enough liar and manipulator to hide any disdain her may feel towards the limitations of others, he is less well practised in accepting the same from himself. A Lonely Vigil: Since separating from his master on account of his duties to the Order, Maloran has had very little contact with the Order, beyond the necessary check ups and check ins for the Shadow Agents. This has left him isolated from his fellow jedi both physically and emotionally. The Void Stares Back: The fatal flaw of all Jedi Shadows as a whole, how long can one balance on the edge of darkness without plunging into its depths? As Maloran's need to succeed increases, so to does the range of what he is willing to sacrifice and implement to achieve the defeat of the Sith Empire.
[sub]Major Events[/sub]
The world of Mirial has long sat on the border between light and dark, its people bearing a connection to the force predating their early touches with stellar travel and the galaxy at large. Positioned in the Outer Rim, it has traded hands between the Republic and the Sith in both great wars of recent memory, despite its peoples' general loyalty to the Jedi. While he may have been sent to the Jedi Order for training at a young age, Maloran was old enough to have been exposed to this culture, exposed to the persistent concern that the Dark Side was only ever a breath away from invading their home once more. Even when he was young and focused on his studies, the path of the Jedi Shadow far in the future, this was the true reason behind his need for improvement, his desire to learn and better himself. One day his home, his family, would be free from the spectre of enslavement to the Sith and their Empire. The Jedi Order practices separation from attachment but this was one failure he allowed himself, buried beneath the teachings and practices of the order. When he became a padawan, his master, Corvo Krin, did little to alleviate Maloran of his severity. A hard master, he pushed the padawan as hard as his internal desire for success. A cooler, more forgiving, Knight may have noticed the dangers with doing so to such an already driven young Jedi, but Corvo was uncompromising and just as dedicated to the defeat of the dark side as his young protegee. He almost pushed Maloran away from his academic interests, such was the extent of their training. The pair were never as personable as many padawan and master pairings are, but they were close, a deep bond of respect between the two that only added to their motivation. It was the eventual, ever persistent, friendship of two of his fellow padawans, Ton and Jaela Kervick, twi'lek siblings of the same age as Maloran, which did more to ease the rigidity of his personality than anything else. As he matured into a young adult, Maloran found that while his attention to his studies never drifted for long, he needed to supplement with more, with his earnest friends, and the taste of a wider galaxy. In part there was still the edge that he knew to become a greater weapon against the Sith, he must learn from more than just the experiences among the Jedi. While his friends trained to become Peacekeepers, staunch, visible, defenders of the Republic, Maloran's drive and agility were quickly recognised as ideal traits for the more sinister Jedi Shadows. It was only natural, Corvo himself had been among their number previously, and there was a cold pride to his master as the selection was made, and Maloran began the process of being remade as covert weapon of the order. The training was, as could be expected, hard, and took much from Maloran. He did not see his closest friends again, the only souls who had been close enough to call him 'Mal' for their duties were separate, and to practice the greatest defences against the interrogation techniques the Sith are known for, required much of his time. This became the focus of Maloran's trials of skill and courage, first mastering the technique for the meditation required of him, then testing it in the crucible of mental trials, the Jedi Shadows turning their own mastery of the force upon their newest initiate to see if they would break. Maloran's Trial of Flesh occurred 'live.' Padawan and master having to fight through the ravages of nerve toxin during a relief mission close to Sith space. While with many such encounters during the Cold War, no blame could be traced directly to the Empire, but a small mining town accepting aid from the Republic was struck with the cold attack. While Padawan and Master saved many, many more perished in excruciating pain, an experience that only re-hardened Maloran's approach to his training and the galaxy. His final trials were passed on Tython, involving much introspection and exploration of his spirit, delving into the dark depths of the planet to face his inner demons as much as those external creatures that the planet set before him. As with many of the Shadows, Maloran's knight was not the grand ceremony some benefit from in the order, but a quiet, intimate expression of success, before he was set out alone for his first task. Since then, Maloran has spent his time in Hutt and Imperial Space, laying low and operating under many different names. Twice he has been sent after renegades of the Order, and it has been those missions he has pursued with particular zeal. While he can be charming and mellow when he wishes to, others among the Shadows have noticed this particular fanaticism. To some it is a boon, to others, a cause for concern. None, however, can complain with his record, unblemished after several years as a Knight. As the current year ticks around, the galaxy finds Maloran positioned once again in Hutt space, watchful for opportunities to keep the Sith from gaining any advantage they can in neutral space.
