[color=6cb98f]▸ [/color][color=lightgray]It had been exactly one year since BigCo had put down it's first flag in the very small town of Root River. The company came without much warning, telling the residents that they needed the land to put down a mega amusement park and resort. All of the residents declined offers. This was home for everyone and it had been home for several generations. The offers became higher and some of the residents took the bait, selling off their land and BigCo immediately got to work, cutting down trees, draining parts of the river and putting down asphalts.

The Rot moved in shortly after. It's hard for people to explain The Rot to an outsider. It comes in a physical form showing up in mold and literal destruction. It comes in mental form in the villagers: sickness and anger. Finally, it comes in an emotional form as residents of Root River began to lose their hope and believe in the village and what made it magical. The Harvest Sprites and The Harvest Goddess were effected first- their homes in the forest and ponds being dismantled before their eyes.

Prayers to the Goddess were meant with pleas in return. The Goddess reminded her people that for her to grant wishes and give a plentiful life that they people of the village had to respect and replenish her land. Remaining villagers have taken this plea very seriously, they are the only people left that can save the land. For now, everyday brings a challenge. New romances, old friendships and even new people in town will bring some adventure to Root River.

Each season has a few events that we would love for you to attend in the midst of your own story. Plots will come and go, just like the seasons. [color=6cb98f]▸ [/color][color=lightgray]New Years Day (01/01) New Years Day is a local holiday that occurs when the first tree within the Mayors Garden begins to show its first sign of leafage. By nightfall the Mayor himself sees to getting the word out as well as gathering up enough food to feed the whole town for an impromptu picnic party. [/color]

[color=6cb98f]▸ [/color][color=lightgray] Neon Night (01/08) Annually once a year the Firefly Squid, a creature only catchable at night because that is the only time the light sensitive creature surfaces from the depths, mate with one another. What makes this sight particularly beautiful is the neon blue light show put on in an effort to attract mates. After the squids eggs have been laid and fertilized the adults die leaving the young to fend for themselves and continue on this biological pattern-following their own passed down tradition the people of the village celebrate an annual beach bonfire.[/color]

[color=6cb98f]▸ [/color][color=lightgray] The Petal Dance (01/15) A rather out of favor festival that most of the old timers still hope to see regain popularity. Meant to combine the welcoming of summer and celebration of young couples accented by the local flowers in bloom. These days it is little more than a few vase's full of flowers, a large bowl of stale punch, and everyone old enough to have gray hair reminiscing of their snogging days.[/color]

[color=6cb98f]▸ [/color][color=lightgray] SunDay (02/01) Basically a big beach party during the day. Hot dogs and burgers, swimming, music. Sorta just a fun unofficial holiday for everyone to just take a break. It usually never takes place on a Sunday, which is sometimes confusing for the residents.[/color]

[color=6cb98f]▸ [/color][color=lightgray] Racetrack Rally (02/08) This is a very very hot summer day that horse racing and just horse enthusiasts alike come together at the racetrack and either try their hand at racing their horse, betting on horses or just enjoying the show.[/color]

[color=6cb98f]▸ [/color][color=lightgray] Biggest Fish Contest (02/15) Whoever catches the biggest fish on this day gets a hefty grand prize. Each year it changes. Most people do not participate in this contest for some reason, probably because the local fisherman always win but the Mayor still tries to encourage a new contender to join in.[/color]

[color=6cb98f]▸ [/color][color=lightgray] Leaf Day (03/01) A small local festival where the main focus is just gathering together for a family friendly potluck to watch and appreciate the changing colors of the woods. Traditionally those that want to participate put their names in for a drawing, the submitted names then being drawn out at random. The goal from that point is to get or make a sweater, hat, gloves, any winter clothing for the person whose name you draw with the idea being they will need it for the coming winter. [/color]

[color=6cb98f]▸ [/color][color=lightgray] The Harvest Fest (03/08) A community holiday that takes place after the year end harvest of local crops, the main focus being a communal feast centered around giving thanks to the Harvest Goddess and the Harvest Sprites for that years crop yield. It is very much a time to give thanks to family, friends, and whatever you believe in.[/color]

[color=6cb98f]▸ [/color][color=lightgray] Winter's Eve (03/15) The last day of fall is celebrated in remembrance of the old ways; particularly the belief of “scaring” away both winter and now currently; the Rot. Just like their ancestors small and large communities still largely celebrate this holiday but in a much more commercial way, these days the focus if far more on having the scariest costume or throwing the best party than anything to do with an actual effort of keeping Winter or the Rot at bay.[/color]

[color=6cb98f]▸ [/color][color=lightgray] Gifts of Givings Day (04/01) Depending on if you participated in the drawing for Leaf Day, most people give their winter gifts on this day. This is also a day to give your loved ones a special present to show them you love and appreciate them. It's a common day for people to admit their love for a special person on this day. Most relationships begin this week.[/color]

[color=6cb98f]▸ [/color][color=lightgray] First Snowfall (04/08) The coldest and harshest day of the year. This day should be kept inside by a warm fire. For those who like the cold and decide to venture out, there are usually tons of kids sledding, making snowmen, and ice forts. You can also come to the bar for a free cup of hot chocolate this day, and this day only.[/color]

[color=6cb98f]▸ [/color][color=lightgray] Winter Wonderland (04/15) A favorite event for old and young alike, this is the last day of the year so another huge celebration has to be put into place. A remembrance of things that happened so far and a time to make goals for the new year to come. On this day it is said that most wishes asked by the Goddess when you bring her a token of appreciation on this day are said to come true.[/color]
