Outside is effectively this "fuzziness" that will try to latch onto anything else that's introduced in the area. Beings who live there (such as the Outsiders) prevent this with special exoskeletons. Those able to resist the physical aspect of it often go insane because it'll latch onto consciousness as well and tear it asunder.
