Shuro is no different. Known as Homura, or 炎, Shuro can manifest black magical flames hot enough to burn clean through the flesh of most Youkai. Whether it’s actual fire or perhaps a well of darkness taking on the shape of it is a Murota mystery, though nothing changes the fact it burns and hurts like hell. Although she’s not limited to her Heirloom in conjuring the dark flames, she prefers to use them in conjunction to her family weapon. That said, she’s not above lobbing a glob of fire at the face of people who annoy her, especially other Hunters. After all, they can take the heat. 🗡 Techniques: As per natural of a Hunter, Shuro holds a display of fancy tricks and techniques involving her Hunter Power and Heirloom. At the moment, she only knows three cool enough to use in public.
• Round House: Coating her Heirloom in her own dark flames, Shuro hurls the sword ferociously at the enemy in a spinning motion. The speed and momentum make the Heirloom a burning buzz saw meant to cut down interlopers and whittle away at the toughest defense. So great is the force of it that sometimes enemies are drawn into the spinning blade of death, albeit slowly. Of course, there’s the drawback of picking up the Heirloom once its purpose is done so Shuro likes to think of the technique as a finishing move of sorts. • Hell Volley: Lighting either of her hands on fire, Shuro can conjure an orb about the size of a baseball each before hurling them at her enemies. Given she has two hands, she can only produce and toss two flaming hot balls at a time. For Youkai who know better, two is usually all they need to give up lest they be treated to burns they won’t be walking away from. • Black Pummel: Much like Hell Volley, Shuro lights her fists on fire to coat them in her signature black flames. Unlike Hell Volley, this technique is purely close quarters in efficiency since, more often than not, Shuro resorts to a good old-fashioned punch instead of firing from a distance. Naturally, her punches burn hot as hell and have proven more than once to be a successful deterrent to anyone getting close.
🗡 Heirloom: The name of the Murota Heirloom is Alastor. Taking the shape of a jet-black blade, the weapon was passed down from generations of Hunters within the Murota family, finally finding its craft be worked by the newest and youngest of them. Unfortunately, Shuro treats the blade more like a prop to bully Youkai with rather than the respect the sword deserves, though perhaps she’s bonding with the blade in her own way…? Regardless, Alastor possesses the unique ability of absorbing heat in all manners of form, growing hot enough to the point only a Murota by blood can wield it without serious injury. 🗡 Limiter: Outside of combat and her Hunter duties, Shuro’s Alastor takes the form of a small keychain. The sword shrinks down as a chain envelops around its handle. It’s usually found in Shuro’s pocket or spinning around her fingers. The blade itself isn’t sheathed however, making it a very convenient box cutter. Some would say that’s not the proper way to treat Alastor, but such is life. 🗡 Background: For the longest time, and for as long as Shuro bothers to remember, the Murota family has always dabbled in the practice of supernatural and mystique. Youkai hunting was only natural to their blood and the black blade Alastor has proven to be the family’s go-to tool in their extermination. It was only natural then that Shuro developed powers of her own and was the next in line to take Alastor’s blade for herself in becoming a Hunter in the modern day. There were immediate problems regarding her inheritance, however. They were more so behavioral, and could be tuned out in time of course, but the fact remains. It wasn’t long before Shuro found boredom in her tasks of being a Hunter, brushing over the strict family guidelines of their Heirloom for nature of using Alastor in her own way. It’s not impossible to say the girl holds some form of resentment towards her family, especially to the elders and their strict methods of practice. Perhaps that’s why she found refuge and some community within the Hunter’s Club. Being the stubborn and aloof family, they are, the Murota family has naturally declined assistance and interaction with other Hunters unless absolutely necessary. So then, to hear Shuro was the first to openly mingle with others of their craft was near-blasphemous to say the least. Yet even the Murota family can acknowledge the times of change and the ideal proposition of putting themselves out there. It’s because of Shuro’s natural affinity and skill of their family Heirloom, despite her unorthodox methods, that have allowed her to slowly drag her family out the shadows and into a more public space. At least among other Hunters. Though truly, she could care less for all the politics of the Murota name, especially their stuck-up ways. So long as she’s finding some enjoyment out it, she’ll continue to bet for the Hunter’s Club and let such communion guide her path in life. 🗡 Skills: As one can imagine, Shuro is quite the adept cook…if one likes their food burnt and permanently charcoal. If nothing else, she makes for a useful heater and never fails to warm people up; not counting the times she accidentally burned them. Without her powers, she’s a decent baseball player, taking great interest in the sport. More than one time, she’s used Alastor as a baseball bat. As the daughter of a powerful Yakuza who oversaw many of the local comings and goings, it was only natural that those who found out the truth to her heritage would regard her with scorn. By choice or chance, Mana’s early life involved making several enemies, though not of her own making. The sins of her family lineage weighed heavily in her blood and one day those sins would be hers to pay. Even so, Mana generally ignored the shady dealings of her family and committed to living a regular school life. Those that stuck close even through hardship were true family as far as she was concerned and worthy of her presence despite the risks it gave. Of course, she couldn’t ignore the Yakuza forever; indeed, it was only a matter of time before the darkness within her clan began to grow rampant and spread like wildfire. Only Mana knows exactly how she came to obtain her Ta'ge Symbiont. Some have come to guess it was by experimental summoning on the Yakuza’s part, to bring about more power and control through means of other worldly forces. After all, the perfect vessel would be the up and coming Yakuza Princess; but in the end, these are just rumors. Who really knows what occurred in these certain events? The only one willing to share is Mana herself and only to those she deems worthy. ✣ Personality: Mana is a girl of few words. That much has been bred into her just in proximity to her family, though she’s not to the point of becoming a social recluse. She prefers to rely on actions more so than words and values the intent behind them. After all, words can hold little to no meaning, but there is no questioning the extent of one’s actions; or so Mana believes. She speaks only when needed to and only when addressed, but in Mana’s experience, getting things done is more favorable than any sort of empty talk. This dogma persists even under the influence of her Ta'ge Symbiont, though in more drastic measures. When transformed, she has a certain tendency to shoot first and ask questions later. ✣ Ta'ge Symbiont: As per all Tagers, Mana has access to powers unbefit of mortal beings. Her particular Symbiont takes the form of a monstrous gunslinger clad in crystal. Whether this form has any bearing on the being attached to Mana or something more personal has yet to be seen.
• Natural Weapons: Mana’s natural weapons come in the form of two pistols budding with magical power. Easily disposable after one shot each, they can be summoned infinitely per her convenience. So far, two types of bullets have been displayed; energy shots and crystalline-structures. Furthermore, the spikes and tentacles on her shoulders can be extended to either puncture and barrage the enemy or act as defense in providing a bristling shield and sweeping counters. • Limit Weapon: When pushed to her limit, or when she desires to decimate her enemy, Mana will utilize her Limit Weapon, Wolve’s Bane. With a shot of her pistols each, a houndish creature appears in place of bullets and it’s not very long before a pack of them can be summoned forth. Acting almost like ghosts, these ghastly hounds seek out their target with frightening precision and unrelenting hunger before feasting on the poor fool who’ve slighted their master. Their speed is horrific to witness, as if they phase out of reality itself, and their ghostly nature make them difficult for most magic to pin down and destroy. • Abilities: Mana’s developed an uncanny ability to slightly alter spaceto her making. More often than not, this manifests in a power to teleport freely and crossing vast distances in a single step, albeit none that exceed more than a few miles. Even so, she can teleport either her entire body or, more often than not, parts of her body if need be. She can also track down others via their shadow and scent, as well as see perfectly in complete darkness. Finally, she’s gained a resistance to near-frigid levels of intense cold and weather.
✣ Ta'ge Persona: While ordinarily quiet and almost reserved, Mana’s personality becomes slightly skewered when transformed. Communication is almost nearly impossible to make with her as she prefers to let her guns do most of the talking than anything else. Some could say she even enjoys the act of murder and gunning down her enemies, though it’s difficult to tell when she’s so close-lipped. Even so, closed-eyed observers can note the subtle body language she gives off to display her enjoyment of bloody and wretched situations, especially in combat. ✣ Hybrid Form: When sliding into her Hybrid Form, Mana’s eyes become slit like a cat’s pupils. When using her powers in this way, she gains her control over space. She’s freaked out her fair share of hapless victims by suddenly tapping them on the shoulder via an arm sprouted from a portal behind them. ✣ Overdrive Ability: As per all Bishops, the Desperado pools all residual energy together to reset all drive cooldowns. Such power is deadly in the correct hands and battle strategem.
• First Drive [Wendigos]: The high-caliber bullets used by the Desperado's main firearms become laced with a special powdery material. Upon impact, these new shells will explode with temperatures below zero, leaving in their wake massive structures and juts of ice. These hold a variety of usage such as weighing other machines down or gradually causing internal damage from the cold. When activated, the Desperado gains 12 of these special bullets, 6 each for one pistol. • Second Drive [Cocytus]: When activated, a pale mist emanates from the Desperado's wings and legs. In moments, the battlefield becomes shrouded in this mist with the Desperado as its epicenter, acting as a means of concealment by the machine. Those trapped in this 5 mile radius experience increasingly lowering temperatures; prolonged exposure will eventually form crystals of ice on the opponent's machine, further incapacitating them. Currently, the Desperate's time frame for this ability is a duration of exactly 2 minutes. • Third Drive [Helhath]: The ports located in each of the Desperado’s arms and legs release, launching a volley of missiles at the opponent. While some detonate as regular explosives, others will freeze objects completely on contact, making their targets easier to shatter through brittle protection and force. These different missile types are appropriately color-coded; blue-tipped for freezing and red-tipped for explosives.
✣ Background: For as long as Rhine could remember, there has always been an instinctual desire for battle that laid dormant in her chest. Like an iceberg freely floating helplessly in a dark ocean, the desire to be the best at all she could do drew her to certain activities and niches. Unfortunately, despite these ambitions, she could never find her talent. Studies bored her, extracurricular activities felt like a chore, and even sports were a flatline when she failed to ever win anything. It was only during Gearframe battle that she found something she not only enjoyed but was good at. Time passed and soon enough she abandoned trying at all other aspects of life that weren’t Gearframe battle. Her grades were kept to just barely passable to keep from completely flunking out but social cues and others were nothing more but a distraction to her. Soon enough, she’d come to complete her skills in Gearframe battle, almost to the point of an artform. By choice or chance, she ended up in GSR, a school practically devoted to Gearframes and the virtual world. Her goal was clear enough; obviously the Purple Ravens hailed to be the strongest of the strong and so that was where her future lied. Indeed, even now she continues to play for their team, nothing short of absolute victory all that she can see in sight. Even among the already high-brow Faction, she’s become somewhat of a talking point if only for her behavior. Much like their leader, she’s found enjoyment in playing solo and keeping distant from others. ✣ Personality: Devil may care is the image Reina likes to paint herself as. Manic, brash, and cracking inappropriate jokes, Reina’s demeanor is akin to a walking time bomb on the battlefield and in the heat of missions. She’s a natural Diver, plain and simple; greedy and selfish in desires. Thankfully for her sake, and for the sake of other Divers, her craving for adrenaline and battle are usually sated and expressed through the killing of Outsiders. Were it not so, she’d no doubt have been kicked out of any Diver Services for her reckless behavior. By means of honor or survival, Reina has enough sense to follow the Diver’s code. That said, she still enjoys freaking out whoever is unlucky enough to get paired with her as a Diver. While Reina’s dark humor can be chalked up to only that, practical joking, her insistent bloodlust when her hands hold a gun no doubt make others around her wonder whether she’s serious or messing around. Again. And that’s just the way Reina likes it. To her, it’s better for everyone to keep their guards up at any time, preparing for the unexpected or the inevitable. Towards her fellow Divers, at least outside of missions, she’s relaxed and carefree, bordering on the line of complete laziness. Indeed, it seems the only thing in this world or the next that truly motivates and excites Reina is the promise of violence, whoever it may fall upon. Some say she does fancy an interest here and there when it comes to certain people but most of the time, all the time, if it doesn’t involve shooting something, it earns half her interest. Maybe less. ✣ Background: Truthfully, Reina doesn’t care much about her background. Nobody cares and nobody cares to care, least of all Reina herself. To those few brave enough to poke around and inquire, she’ll only give them a big grin then spin some wives’ tail of how her life came to be. One day she’s the sole survivor of a mob hit, seeking refuge in the life of a Diver. Another day she’ll be an ex-child soldier who never shook off her taste for battle with no tolerance for normal society. The range of absurdity to her stories always escalate and she’ll only ever stop when the other party has enough of her bloated words. Indeed, Reina couldn’t much care about her life before becoming a Diver because nobody else does. All that can be said objectively is that she was “cast aside” and “abandoned” to a life of bloodshed; her exact words. At some point in her early life, Reina was perhaps truly ostracized by family be it by morals, a falling out, or a commentary on Reina’s own unhinged attitude towards life. Regardless of the reason, the life of a Diver appealed to her more than anything else and soon it wasn’t long before she was given her AEGIS. As one of the few Divers who sought employment and enjoyment in the lifestyle, Reina never shied away from a job. Each operation was a source of income and a reason for living. Each battle was just another experience to write off as her personal brand of fun. Regardless of what her true origins are and what story is fact, and which is fiction, it’s become obvious to her fellow Divers that Reina Kurowai is very devoted to her work. So long as she has fun. ✣ Cross Gear: Reina’s Cross Gear is crude and simple. From an outward appearance, it looks like a standard military assault rifle, easy enough to customize and upgrade. In her line of business and experience, her Cross Gear has evolved and modified to the point of having a special ability as well. When needed, Reina’s bullets can be imbued with a paralysis effect, stopping the motion of whoever they hit for a short amount of time; the longest recorded was five minutes. So potent is the paralysis that it can freeze most large Outsiders depending on the type. However, the bigger the target is, the harder it becomes to paralyze them. Likewise, this marks these stubborn types as worthy prey in Reina’s eyes. ✣ Equipment: Aside from her Cross Gear and EC-K, Reina also possesses the usual Diver UNIT. Over time she’s spent the payload needed to customize her model. In some sense of depraved hilarity, she’s since fashioned her UNIT in the shape of a small cat, one that acts out all the functions of a UNIT. In such a form, it serves well in disguising itself from unwanted attention as well as providing an extra degree of mobility and speed in traversing alongside its Diver. In addition to this, Reina often carries around a spare handgun, a few grenades, lots of ammo, and of course her signature arm augmentation. Acting as an extra hand in combat both for her Cross Gear and other needs, Reina conceals her third robotic arm folded behind her back. Keeping maintenance of it has occasionally taken a toll on her budget and paycheck, but with her insistence of dangerous missions as well as her enjoyment of being a Diver, there’s no shortage of possible income. Finally, the AEGIS inside her specializes in vitality. Overtime, it’s developed to provide stimulation, adrenaline, and other such healthy serums directly into Reina’s bloodstream. These have the varying effects of keeping her stamina from dipping, painkillers, adrenaline spikes, and even briefly healing her wounds, albeit usually internally not externally. If nothing else, it can be described as stem pack inside her body. The intent is clear; her AEGIS reflects her desire for blood, eager to make its user hunt and feast until her body deems she longer can. ✣ Skills: Perhaps to no one’s surprise, Reina is rather fond-and quite good at it too-of knife tricks and other knife play. Some say that, in her most private moments, she can be found practicing knife balancing on her fingertips with her EC-K. From cutting food in slim pieces, to hitting objects from across the room, it seems there’s really nothing that’s considered “fancy” Reina can’t do with a knife. She’s also quite the expert on “stabberscotch”.
