Despite living almost half of her life in relative isolation, Iris is a people person. She feels most at ease when she's surrounded by others, smiling and making them smile. As her overall look would suggest, Iris is a very easygoing, relaxed person, with a sort of stoner-esque wisdom about her. She'll listen to your problems, sympathize with you, and give you advice, even if the advice isn't exactly the kind of help you were looking for.

And while she enjoys to help other people through their troubles, she tends to try to keep her own problems under the wraps. She's afraid of growing dependent, becoming a burden, and getting abandoned, a group of fears her old psychiatrist once called the Triad of Trauma-Induced Terror, a name which Iris was never sure if it counted as an alliteration or not. So she tends to keep most of her negative emotions to herself, saving them for when she's alone and can get High N Cry™. However if something sudden and sad does happen, she may not be able to stop herself from breaking down.

[b][u]Upsilon:[/u][/b] Upsilon is a constant hallucination that plagues Iris' everyday life. He takes the form of a horrific beast lacking a face, one with a head that looks like someone took a bunch of bits of skin and melted them together into a ball. His mouth, if you could call it that, is simply a hole without lips that opens up occasionally to reveal blue flames. He contains this monstrous form in a black suit, with a small, burnt up handkerchief with the Greek letter upsilon marked upon it. After her powers caused the destruction of multiple family homes, and, eventually, the deaths of her sisters, she developed Upsilon as a method of dissociation. She subconsciously relinquished her powers to him, so she wouldn't have to blame herself for all the things her powers caused. Iris herself doesn't know the exact nature of Upsilon. She figures that he's just a peculiar part of her mutation.

[b][color=40E0A6]How did you discover your powers:[/color][/b] 
It was a dark and stormy night. I know, I know, cliche, but it was. Iris and her sisters were always taught not to be frightened by lightning and thunder, after all, it was a completely natural phenomenon. Their parents' explanation of storms had worked for Julie and Juniper, who were both sound asleep, but not Iris. She was still quaking under her sheets, waiting for it to stop. On one of the claps of thunder, a brick flew through her window. Her father later discovered it'd been some hooligans who didn't like how he talked about his anti-mutant views on his news show. But whoever the cause, the brick caused Iris to let out a torrent of blue flame throughout her room.

The accidental burst of fire ended up causing enough burn damage that they had to find a different house, but they all escaped unharmed. Her father was all too happy to blame the fire on the kids who threw the brick, and being a kid, she believed it with all her heart too. She'd wordlessly nod along as her father talked about what 'vicious monsters' the kids must've been, and how they were 'completely inhuman'.  Little did anyone know, it would be those words that crafted the image of Upsilon in young Iris' mind.

[b][color=40E0A6]General History:[/color][/b] 
Iris had a bit of an odd childhood. Her parents, George and Indigo Rodgers were polar opposites. George was a highly conservative news anchor, somewhat famous for his news segment [i]Rodger That[/i], while Indigo was what one would call a 'hippy' who was born just a few decades too late to be part of the movement. Iris never knew how her parents got together, but she did know why they stayed together: her, and later, her younger sisters, Julie and Juniper. Indigo always seemed to feel trapped in New York, like a bird in a cage. Iris didn't realize it at the time, being so young, but her mother was not a happy woman. But nonetheless, Iris loved her, and looked up to her despite her sadness. 

She did not, however, have as good of a relationship with her father. Her father was disappointed in her femininity as a child, and would often push her to participate in sports and other masculine activities. That's how she found martial arts. It's the one thing she's grateful to her father for, and even then his intentions were ill. He saw a way to indulge in violence and let testosterone flow, but Iris discovered it was more spiritual, and allowed her to feel a flow through her anxious little body that she previously hadn't felt. 

She was seven when she had her first incident relating to her powers. They had to move to a nearby house, which wasn't too much of a problem. They weren't exactly poor, and the insurance on their previous house didn't hurt. But not long after, that house burned down too. It was around this time that Iris started to talk about Upsilon, which her parents wrote off as an imaginary friend of some sort. After that, they stayed at George's brother's house, which similarly burned down. Iris' father was certain it was the same mutants who'd caused the first fire, as the flames were the same bright blue color. When a strikingly similar incident happened at Iris' school, however, George began to become suspicious, especially when Iris came home from school saying that Upsilon had been behind the fire. 

They were living in an apartment complex when the worst of the incidents occurred. She was sleeping in a bunk bed at the time, with her sisters both sleeping in the bottom bunk. Back then, Iris' night terrors were less frequent, but still prevalent. That night, she had a particularly bad one, and flailed out of bed. She was lucky to land on her back rather than an arm or something else easily breakable, but it was enough to disorient her. When she came to, she saw Upsilon standing over her, and the glow of blue fire that had become all too familiar. Her sisters' screaming brought their father running in. He tried to save them, but he couldn't. They died that night. But even in his rushed state, George took notice of how the flames danced around Iris' little limbs, leaving her unscorched. The fire died out fairly quickly, leaving the complex majorly unharmed. The morning after, he had had an argument with Indigo about what to do with Iris, all while Iris sat on the sofa, unsure of what would happen. George insisted they had to get rid of her. Indigo didn't want that. Finally, the two came to an agreement: Indigo would take her to a homeless youth shelter. So that's what she did. She drove to the shelter, and then right passed it. 

The two of them went to Oregon, leaving George behind them. They took on Indigo's maiden name, Rivers, and settled down in a small, cheap cabin in the woods, a ways away from the nearest town. The two of them were happy. They'd do odd jobs and sell things from their garden to get money for the necessities, such as fire extinguishers, hygiene products, and Iris' eventual transition. They were the best years of her life. She'd spend whole days meditating in the forest, practicing her tai chi and aikido on the shore of a nearby lake, and playing bongos by the light of a campfire. Upsilon didn't seem to be as much of a problem there. To say Iris got used to him would be an overstatement. But he began to become less of a horrifying looming threat, and more of a creeping dread. And he was definitely more manageable. He didn't set many fires anymore, and those he did Iris and Indigo managed to extinguish quickly. When she was eighteen, however, after years of dormancy, Upsilon blew up. He set the forest ablaze, turning the Rivers' beloved forest to ashes. The fire was eventually put out, but not before it had done massive damage to the Oregon wilderness. But the nature of the fire, all of which was searing, blue fire, attracted the attention of many who wouldn't have given it a second glance otherwise. One of these people was Charles Xavier. He offered her a place where she could learn to control her power, a feat she thought impossible. As much as it pained her to leave her home, she knew it was for the best.

Iris was a bit anxious about making friends when she first came back into society. But when she was roomed with Akane, the bubbly girl did 90% of the work of the befriending, and all Iris had to do go along with the girl. The pair's personalities may be on the opposite sides of the spectrum, but that seems to be more of a positive than a negative, with the two balancing each other out.

Mary was one of the first friends Iris made among the X-Men, and despite everything, she still considers the girl to be a friend. While she doesn't hold any ill will towards Mary for the assault, she also won't let the poor girl live it down. She knows that her ability causes Mary to be cautious of her, but she understands. She's cautious of her own abilities too.

Guin and Iris' unlikely friendship began with Guin's bachelorette party and was solidified by the events of her wedding. And while Iris loves the girl's company, she also partially fears that the clever girl will manage to dig past her ecstatic and joyful exterior to find the trauma beneath.

The main reason that Iris hangs with Bethany is to kill her goth vibe. When the emo is around, Iris makes sure that her sunshiney exterior is twice as bright as usual. She doesn't know if Bethany considers her a friend, but she also doesn't particularly care. Iris has been hanging around Bethany a bit more than usual since Mira left in an attempt to fill the grumpy void in her life, but it's just not the same.

Ever since learning about Lance's condition, Iris has been tutoring him in the art of meditation and emotional control. As of late, however, she has been getting sidetracked from their exercises to gossip about Lance's new galpal.

Despite their differences in volume, with Annie being fairly soft-spoken and Iris often being quite upfront and loud, the two often tend to think on the same wavelength, and, as such, have become friends. After Annie's best friends ran off with Iris' best friend, it was only natural that the two bonded, relying on one another for support.

Mira and Iris' friendship is tense, to say the least, but it's one that Iris values deeply, perhaps more than any friendship she has among the X-Folk. Mira leaving was a bit of a blow for Iris, more of a blow than she was expecting. Having someone who was grumpy all the time around really helped her remember to stay happy all the time, a necessity, given her power.
