Noah had been waiting, rather impatiently for night to fall so that he could finally get a decent bite to eat. Restlessly he prowled through the woods, the thirst burning deep in his throat, watching as a group of students held a bonfire. University had recently started up again and one of his favorite hunting grounds was once again fully stocked. The air was thick with the smell of lusty, hot blooded, humans. It wasn’t long before a couple headed off, alone, into woods away from the rest of the group that had gathered here at Lover’s Lake. A gleeful grin spread across his face; and now the hunt would begin. He stalked them silently through the woods. Once they were further away from the rest of the humans the game began. Noah began taunting the humans, allowing his feet to step on a branch or two all while staying hidden in the darkness. Then occasionally allowing the humans a glimpse of him as he sped through the trees, circling them like a predator would. He could smell the hint of fear coming off the female human, while the male still smelled of lust. “Babe I swear something is following us, don’t tell me you didn’t just see that.” The anxiety had crept into the female’s voice, but the male seemed unconcerned, assuring her it was likely just an animal. He wasn’t wrong, Noah thought, they were all but animals, with vampires being the most superior animal of them all. “An animal, perhaps. But you can call me death itself.” Noah spoke with a soft menace in his voice as he stepped out from the shadows of the trees to where the human prey could see him. The male quickly moved in front of the female, his hand trembling as he pulled a small knife from his pocket and pried it open. He held the knife in front of him, brandishing the trinket as if such a weapon could be a threat to Noah. The vampire tilted his head to the side, flashing a grin that showed off his fangs as they extended, while his eyes gave off a predatory gleam. Now the male smelled of fear too. “Back off, asshole.” The male shouted, a tremble in his voice. Noah moved faster than either human could have anticipated, and in seconds he closed the distance between him and his prey. “Boo.” Noah whispered, his now red eyes locking with the male, as he raised his arms up to the night sky, allowing the male a clean strike. “Your move.” He taunted. The male moved quickly, for a human, and thrust the knife into Noah’s abdomen. “Laura run!” The male shouted as he went to take a step back to do the same. Noah let out a laugh as the knife pierced his skin. “That tickles.” He said before pulling the pocket knife out his stomach. As the man turned to run, Noah moved quickly, stabbing the knife into the male’s arm and grabbing him by the hair as he screamed. Noah jerked the male’s head back with one hand while holding the injuried arm with his other, digging his fingers into the knife wound. “Yes, Laura run.” He shouted at the already fleeing female who paused to turn and look at them. Once Noah saw that she was watching he sank his fangs into the neck of struggling male victim. The female, Laura, let out a scream before scrambling to run once more. Noah drank from the male before tossing his body aside. “It so much more fun when you run.” He shouted, taking a minute to lick the blood off his fingers before chasing after the female. Noah herded the female deeper into the woods and away from the lake and the other humans at the lake. “Laura!” He shouted after her, whistling like one would do to call a dog. He continued the chase, until the fear was strong enough that he could almost taste it from the scent alone. Then he stopped holding back, he sped up closing the distance between himself and the female. With a swift motion he grabbed the human and tossed her against a tree. “You can’t run, you can’t hide, but you can scream all you want.” He offered as he turned to face her. Instead of screaming the terrified human grasped at a cross she wore around her neck, muttering something to herself. Noah chuckled as he realized what the human was doing. “Are you praying?” He asked amused. He took a small step back and threw up his hands towards the sky. “Dear heavenly Father if my deeds offend thee then strike me down and save this precious lamb of yours.” Noah shouted up to the sky as he took a few more steps closer to his prey. He paused for the drama of it, and then shrugged. “Well, I guess he just doesn’t care.” Noah said before quickly grabbed the cross from her fingers and ripped it from her neck. “Maybe he’s just really busy.” He added sarcastically before holding the cross up and licking it. Noah enjoyed mocking the things humans thought would protect them; their religious symbols, their weapons, and the places they thought they should be safe. He dangled the cross necklace in front of the terrified human. “Must be broken.” Noah taunted as he tossed the cross over his shoulder. The human moved to run again but he grabbed her by the neck and smacked her head into the tree, just hard enough to knock the human unconscious. “One for me, one for the clan.” He said cheerfully, having enjoyed his successful hunt. The taste of human blood still sitting in his throat, cooling the thirst that burned in him. As much as he wanted to drink both humans, he was supposed to be bringing in more blood slaves for the clan, and for now his thirst currently satiated. He slung the unconscious human over his shoulder and spent a good few minutes trying to remember where he’d left his car. Eventually he found his way back to a black beat up old car he’d stolen not too long ago. He tied up the human, before tossing her into the truck. Then he frowned, he wasn’t supposed to leave bodies lying around to arouse suspicion and the male was still back in the woods. He also figured he shouldn’t leave the female in the trunk in case she managed to get out either. Noah scratched his head as he wondered what to do. He shrugged and slammed the trunk closed, wasn’t much he could do about it now and he certainly wasn’t afraid of human hunters. The thought of playing games with the hunters excited him, they’d make much more interesting prey than other humans. As a young vampire he felt invincible and the thought that a simple mortal could ever end his fun never crossed his mind. He still grinned with excitement as he started up the car, in his mortal life he’d never gotten to drive. He sped, without caution, through the back roads making his way towards route 68 and the small town that was now Vie et Mort. He took the side road hard enough that the tires screeched as the car turned and slammed the breaks once he was inside gates of the community. His driving had all been, rather poorly, self-taught. The Mills Community, a small town completely under control Vie et Mort, was a place Noah had spent nearly half his life. He owed everything he had to these vampires, he had started his time her as a lowly blood slave, as insignificant as an ant, and now he was a vampire, a creature more akin to a god than any human could dream of being. Noah noticed how the minor knife wound was already mostly healed, only adding to how powerful he felt. He searched out the guard in charge of the living blood bags and flashed a wide grin once he spotted the man. “I have brought a gift.” Noah said proudly, for the first time in a while he had managed to bring in a human alive, and without a single bite, to help restock the community food source. Frequently during the thrill of the hunt, it was difficult to keep enough control. Who would’ve thought that he just needed to eat first? “A live one this time?” The guard asked. Noah nodded yes and the man sent another vampire to retrieve Noah’s gift. Once the human, now awake, was pulled from the trunk of the car he caught the enticing smell of human blood. His went red again as he starred at the human who was dragged away screaming. The thirst burned in his throat, not as powerfully as before but enough that he still felt it. “You did well, Noah.” The other vampire said, laying a hand on Noah’s shoulder and breaking him from his trace-like state. “Yeah.” He said nodding in agreement. He was improving as a vampire, doing better, soon he’d be rid of any trace of human weakness. “Could you let Mistress Celeste know, that I am doing better?” He asked hopeful. “I’ll do you one better, and make sure Desiree gets a full report on how well you’re doing. You know Celeste has been unreachable in her travels.” The other vampire said softly, giving Noah a look that the younger vampire found strange. He looked at him with pity, and Noah wondered if it was because he knew why his sire had left without saying anything. Noah was convinced she left because he had not been a good enough vampire, but how would his sire know how much he had improved if she did not stay in contact with Vie et Mort? He would have to do something impressive enough that word might reach her on her travels. Again, the thought of hunting the hunters crossed his mind, what better why to show his improvement than to hunt a more dangerous prey, something that could pose threat to even vampires. “Thank you, sir.” Noah said before heading off to get cleaned up. The night was still young and if he wanted to go back out again being covered in blood was not the way to do it. He had a new fixation caught in his head; he would hunt hunters, he would be a better vampire, and his sire would have to be proud to have him in her bloodline if he did these things.
