Though it is unintentional, her graceful appearance often leads to many treating her in strict formality. Around her near-colourless face, elegant hair flows from beneath her head-dressing and her eyes shimmer a glimmering bloom of aquatic tones. Her peaceful and silent looks stem directly from her lineage abroad, being one of the first Vinlander's within the bloodline she secretly holds on to. Eliza doesn't hold a petite figure, but rather one of small muscle and make-do strengths that get her through her military days. Standing at 5'10", she doesn't boast any exponential height advantages over her peers, instead taking pride in her attires more than her physical appearance. One thing that makes her almost instantly recognisable is her affinity for longer and draped military fatigues. Stretching to just above her knees, Eliza generally can be seen fighting, living and serving in an autumn military jacket, going over the standard shirts and trousers of the Vinland Expeditionary Force. Whilst it is more of a mimic of older senior officers, who tend to parade themselves as such to fulfil a superiority complex, Eliza tends to wear hers simply because she finds a strong liking to its comfort, despite its rough cotton material. Most of what she wears is vastly the same to the standard Vinland soldier, right down to their helmet, webbing and boots. Off-duty, she tends to walk around in long dresses of one bright colour, letting her hair flow free and her chest unconstrained by the discomfort of tight combat attires. Personality Eliza tries to see herself as a big sister. In truth, she never had a sibling to look after, so she always took the time to adopt any other friend to become a newfound brother or sister. In protecting someone, an immense drive got her through each day of school, through each encounter with a bully and helped her wake up every morning after. Protecting was her little niche. And whilst she hated to admit it, there wasn't much drive for her in the day if she wasn't doing just that. It fuelled a little part inside of her that wanted to be a reliable individual, one that wanted to be sought for help when someone else needed it. Half as an egotistical amplification and half as a genuine preach for assistance. To achieve this, Eliza tries to outreach kindness to her fellow soldiers if the need arises. However, in pursuit of her authoritative nature, she isn't afraid to lend an angry command to those who look up to her. Following her rise through the ranks in training, and by being selected to act as the first wave of new generation non-commissioned officers for the Vinland Expeditionary Force, Eliza tends to keep a more conservative personality to uphold her respectable place. One thing is for sure: Eliza does not take what she has for granted. Knowing when she's been gifted and opportunity and when she's actively worked towards achieving a goal, she will always be thankful for her own actions, as well as the people around her giving the slim opportunities to do so. Her boasts remain silent and instead she focuses on the achievements of those around her, which are aimed to build a tighter trust between her and those who follow her orders. Unfortunately, its overall success is limited. Issues surrounding her as a Sergeant still come by and give her a slight anger, worsening the connection and impressions she has of those under her command. Ultimately, she tries to maintain her elder-sibling appreciation for the people around her, but with a slight deviance from kindness in order to enforce proper formality, orderly combat execution and a more calming environment in the heat of battle. When the formal tone is not enough, she will resort to bashful aggression to get her point across.
Rank Sergeant Role Rifleman - Non-Commissioned Officer Potentials Stand Fast! Despite having an out-of-date doctrine, Eliza brings out her full Vinland courage to try and inspire her soldiers immensely. Having a natural feat for speeches, delivering orders with sturdiness and using the depths of her lungs to blast out any command she has, Eliza prides herself with the voice of a leader, even if she can't fully match that expectation in action. Europan Dialect With her family roster only recently including tallying up Vinlanders like herself, Eliza's distinctive looks commonly mistake her for a native of Europa. Matched with her near fluent capabilities at speaking Native Francian as well as moderate Imperial Native, Eliza tends to play into the favour of both Vinland and Europan officers alike. Whilst it did initially alienate her from her Vinland brothers and sisters in arms, she slowly has begun to connect with those closest to her homeland. Failed Adjustment Eliza depended heavily on the training she received in her earliest days, spending all of her hours going back and fourth on the fields of practice to hone her skillset. Every book available was read and every open training session was attended, proving her hardwork. However, as the Vinland Doctrine is out of date, unable to shift to the reality of the Great War, Eliza found herself without the well-tuned knowledge required to execute genuine strategy. Conflicts between what she knows best and what really is the best option commonly delay her strategic capability.
Biography Harrowville, Armine; 1894EC. Eliza was born in the small coastal town and lived lovingly with her Mother and Father for the years of growing up. Without a sibling to connect with, she spent most of her time focusing on herself and improving her own personal abilities, mainly in the academic sector. School was her second home, spending more time around the libraries and study sessions than the peers in her class. Whilst not exactly a popular girl in terms of friends, she did hold a reputation of elegance that carried through the minds of those she spoke to. A great deal of child 'suitors' attempted to ask her on childhood dates across the surrounding hills of Harrowville, most of which were simply met with a kind acceptance without ever going further than the first encounter. School was arguably the best part of her life, where little care had to be attributed to the responsibilities of a growing woman in a difficult world stricken with political landslides. Instead, she took her heart to the languages of the world, studying Native Francian, Imperial Native and the history of Europa as her guiding traits in the world. For a short while, she subscribed to the followings of the Yggdist faith under the teachings of the Valkyrur, but never led it on to become a staple part of her life. Fellow Yggdists complained of her lack of faith, thus removing her from the sect to little to no surprise. Though her childish self was upset at first, within days she was back to studying and keeping herself entertained by the words on paper before her. Childhood slowly developed into adolescence and the stress of undying responsibility placed itself upon her shoulders. Eliza began to feel a strong loneliness, all the while struggling to make any real friends besides the common acquaintance. Motioning through the days, she kept her studying as a metaphysical companion to accompany her through those lonesome hours. Once those days became weeks, she questioned her parents about their potential for another child, giving her a sibling to naturally latch onto. Despite the incredible appreciation her parents had for her as a single child, stating that she was a culmination of excellence, Eliza continued to question why they wouldn't just have another infant to add to the family. Questions like What if I was killed? and "I don't want to be alone" were regularly responded to with a light-hearted chuckle, stating that no ill-will would befall her. Those nights spent grumbling as any teenager were became genuine fear of lonesomeness. Once her parents were gone, there would be no one major left, other than the distant cousins across the waters of the Atlantic. And so, with the fear gnawing at her mind, she spent the rest of those innocent years improving her self, taking up sporting activities such as cross-country and tennis all the while retaining her academic studies. Perfecting Francian, she began to spend a huge portion of her time growing her Imperial aural abilities. By the age of 17, the reality of the political world had finally settled in to her daily conversations as the news headlines were flooded with them. For every announcement of technological advancement or prodigal achievement from some youthful scientist, there was at least seven disturbingly political articles detailing the international affairs beginning to break down overseas. And on that one fateful day, the headlines were lined with huge bold text, all screaming out the same voices of terror as the competitive papers: WAR! At first, Eliza was scared, never really delving into what a modern war could come across as. With the number of participants rising in a matter of days, its escalation caused panic throughout the homes of those in Vinland, questioning what it meant for them as traditional friends to the Atlantic Federation. Moments later, the Presidency announced their distance from the conflict, making their views clear that the war was likely to last a maximum of a single year, with everyone coming together to realise how pointless their actions may be. But it never did. The war started out slow, but soon news of huge battles and clashes against the Assen and Wessel traumatised the Western World of Europa. Shipments of refugees were seen coming in and out of towns like Harrowville almost all the time, both from Francia, Iberon, Edinburgh and the Empire. Some were welcomed with open arms, whilst others were aggressive towards their cowardly ways, seeing them as dishonourable. Those old sentiments of a warrior's spirit and duty were limited in numbers, but they spoke louder than the common pacifist. Slowly, things began to look uglier for the people across the lake. Heartbreaking news such as cousins and familial names being slaughtered in the early battles began to toy with her comfort. She felt at pressure, and with her out of school without anything to keep her occupied, she finally found herself joining the scarcely limited Vinland Army, simply to give her a protected place in the world whilst also gathering a semi-stable income. And through training, she worked endlessly to appease her superiors, all whilst finally finding something to satisfy a long-awaited itch that needed to be scratched. When those around her fell victim to troublesome training, she made it her mission to bring them back onto their feet. Immediately, she felt a rush of motherhood or a sibling's love fall upon her whenever she placed someone back onto their boots, making them excel with her through the ranks. Her superiors caught onto it, making her a Private First Class as soon as she exited training. 1911 came around and she was an incorporated soldier in the midst of a struggling, peaceful nation, refusing to take off the gloves and bludgeon the noses of their apparent enemy. Even though Vinland had no real stake in the Europan War other than to protect its allies and friends, which at the time was done through supplements of equipment and barely occasional volunteers, Eliza was desperate to get into the fight to start making a difference to people's lives. She attempted to volunteer into the Atlantic Army via a transfer, however she was denied several times. Many believe it was because her Officers wanted her to remain within the Vinland Ranks to train additional soldiers, though its real reason was left unheard of. The years passed. By late 1912, she was promoted to Corporal and remained in her position doing nothing but training her fellow Vinland soldiers as they were recruited in barely sizeable waves. Without a reason to join the war, the amount of troops within the professional army was barely visible at most, giving them a struggling time to operate on grander scales when preparing for a potential declaration of war. The year dragged on, but Eliza occupied herself with the fascination of taking care of others. Once more, that sickening kick of egotistical importance started to flourish amongst her allies. Some found it tedious, whilst others became attached to her almost immediately. And eventually, 1913 came around. At the start of the year, Eliza was sent with a moderate garrison to the Isle of Kanerath, one of the several vital Edinburgh naval ports centred in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Whilst most garrisons were transferred to frontline infantry, the head of the Federation replaced its empty spaces with Vinland troops on a lot of occasions. Secretly hoping for their ports to be raided and thus bringing the Vinlanders into the fray, many unaware soldiers like Eliza did so without much care. Training on and off, reading, drills and all the above. Eliza had a fling with a sailor once or twice, but felt her romance grow short and lack true love, dropping as more of measly fun than genuine compassion. Finally, the day came. On November 5th, 1913EC, seven Imperial ships strayed off their recommended path. Five destroyers, an armoured cruiser and a single dreadnought scraped by the Isle of Kanerath, initiating a devastating exchange of cannonades. Though the attack was initially unplanned, shelling and constant bombardment led to fourteen hours of struggling for survival. Not once in those hours did Eliza see a single face of the Empire, only their distant bodies in smaller boats as they failed landfall twice, eventually turning to a complete glassing of the island itself. On the Fourteenth Hour, the nearest Strike Fleet of the Edinburgh Navy arrived, clashing in the third largest naval engagement of 1913. The Battle of Kanerath was barely fought close up, not like the other battles many of the infantry would expect, and so Eliza never developed any sense of conflict within her heart. She didn't see who shot at her, only the flags of their allegiance. And from there, she yearned only to take the gloves off and bloody the nose of the Empire. Once the battle was over, she was credited with her achievements of protecting her units and organising a very very basic defensive line near the coastal edge to break away the rowboats that never made it to shore. Sergeant Willis was now her rank, and she felt pride surge through her blood for years to come. And eventually, the time she had arrogantly dreamt off had come. War was declared, and as she had to wait for total mobilisation, Eliza was placed as a training assistant and instructor for the preparing 2nd Division of Vinland Infantrymen. To her, this was the start to a glorious chapter in her life. In reality, it was the start of a nightmare waiting to challenge what she believed in. Affiliations Father - Roger Willis [Alive] Mother - Julianne Willis [Alive] Theme Song
