Bakushima has many older farms in the plains region (Eastern Baku) as well as a few along the coastal regions of western Bakushima. The Baku people pride themselves in their high degree of technology. Several Bakushima corporations are the global industry leaders producing some of the finest computers, automobiles, telecommunications and military grade weapons. Baku will fight its next war based on its technology. They have many satellites in orbit around the planet as well as a premier space program.
Bakushima Military. Any citizen of the Empire of Bakushima who meets the physical requirements may enlist in the Imperial Baku military regardless of gender as long as they have attained the age of 16. The citizen need not be a secondary education graduate. It is preferred but not required. A serviceman who has a diploma may turn a four-year enlistment into a 20+ year career if they desire. Someone who did not complete their secondary education is limited to serving only as a private; never being promoted to an NCO rank. The Baku military has a professional private program for those individuals who excel as a soldier, but can in no way lead others on the battlefield. A soldier can serve their entire career as a professional private, but must be discharged upon attaining the age of 50. All servicemen are entitled to veterans’ benefits which includes the following: A home loan without down payment. Free college/university education to the college of their choice for up to four years. Burial detail and plot in any national cemetery; all expenses paid only for retirees and combat veterans. Employment assistance and preference at any local employment office. Depending on the job a service member performed, there are discharge packages that provide the member with a monetary gift as large as 5,000 credits. There are smaller packages and not all jobs will garner a separation bonus. Retirement pay for those servicemen who serve for a minimum of 20 years. Retirement pay is incrementally larger depending on years of service and based on rank at time of discharge. Homeless veterans are entitled to live any of a number of shelters and eat at the soup kitchens in these shelters in all major cities and some smaller cities across the country. Counselling is available at all Veterans Community shelters throughout the country.
