One of the many tasks of a Chancellor consist of the creation of Laws, the signing of articles of diplomatic importance such as treaties, to appoint judges for the Interstellar Court and so on. The Legislative Branch, that of which being the Senate. The Senate's main tasks consist of the passing of laws brought forward by the Chancellor, passing or vetoing Legislation by the Chancellor, and are to give consent to enact a Declaration of War. And finally there is the Interstellar Court, who are responsible for the enforcement of the Laws created by the Chancellor and passed then enacted by the Senate. IC Judges are appointed by the Chancellor. Star Systems within the Federation are partially autonomous entities who are responsible for both maintaining worlds and installations within, and to maintain its own defense with their local System Defense Force to act as its shield. Unlike the Dathu, the Jakai were more progressive-minded, and more open to the federation's ideals of democracy and liberty. The Dathu are an antiquated people with a similar culture to the middle ages of Old Earth. Their world ruled by nobles, lords and kings. Upon joining the federation, the reign of the ruling class still persists, if now more “evolved”, many of the noble houses becoming heads of stellar spanning corporations within the federation. Each colony within Federation Space possess an PDF, each are tasked with defending and keeping the civilian population under control from threats both internal and external. Whilst they're less heavily armed and equipped then their counterparts in the military, the men and women of the various PDFs are more then capable to respond to any incident and threat with vigilance and are not a force to be taken very lightly. After untold centuries of search, the Columbia was fortunate enough to be the first to arrive to what would soon be called New Eden, their new homeworld, the first of the Core Worlds. Despite New Eden’s pristine conditions, the planet hid its own share of peril as the settlers had to contend with dangerous new forms of alien fauna. Over the coming decades the colonists would undergo periods of civil unrest and division as new settlements dotted the landscape. All the while the planet would be slowly tamed as the local fauna were more understood. By the year 100 EC, tensions escalated as power blocs formed among the numerous colonial settlements, two of the most prominent and historically significant of which were the Eden Alliance, the federation’s precursor and its rival and instigator of events to come, the Northern Colonial Coalition. The Unification War was declared and for over a decade, the two blocs would fight tooth and nail, the prize being complete domination of New Eden. In the end, the Alliance would prove victorious, the NCCs defeat would signal both the end of the division and the rise of the New Eden Federation. The next few centuries would mark a new age of space exploration as mankind would seek the stars once more. The Federation would be the first to establish the Gate Network, linking each system visited one by one. Along their journey through the stars, mankind would both make first contact with intelligent alien lifeforms and to the sheer astonishment of the New Eden Colonists, make contact with other arc survivors who had suspected themselves as the last remnant of humanity. This shocking discovery marked the beginning of a more “contemporary “age as star nations on the scale similar to the federation were found to almost every corner of the Eden Cluster, no longer was the federation alone. The latter half of the this new millennium would one of pollical maneuvering, backdoor deals, turmoil and warfare, all of which the Federation would partake in for it’s own interests or that what it deemed for the “greater good”. In the last century, activity in the frontier has garnered the federation’s attention as colonists end up missing in great droves, federation citizens included in their number. These strange, seemingly unrelated occurrences have led to a series of investigations, and even led to brief wars between other Core Powers, namely the CCN and the Free Star Commonwealth.
