I feel that Sanderson's Second Law (that limitations are what make a magic system interesting, not capabilities) applies to characters too. Since you're writing, your character can do anything htat you write them to. That's cool, but not super interesting and it definitely doesn't create conflict. What's the most interesting is what they CAN'T do, and how they work around that INcapability to achieve their goals. THAT's the essence of story.
