Biographical A legendary king of Athens from the times of Heracles. He was a child of Aethra, princess of Troezen, and through his veins ran the blood of both the previous King, Aegeus, and that of the great god Poseidon. With such fine pedigree, perhaps the destiny of a hero was carved out from the time of his birth. At a very young age, he embarked in that ship that ferried the greatest heroes of a generation. Further along the line, when he had returned from the voyage after biding farewell to priceless friends, he would retrieve the sword and sandals left behind by his mortal father and head on to reclaim his birthright. His figure and deeds are expansive, ranging from the unification of Attica and cementation of Athens’ power to the crushing of the Minotaur. And of course, the tragedies of lost loves, friends and family, and his own death. He left behind the brilliant heroic tale of a man that always lost what was dearest to him in the end, second only to Heracles within his own life. There are certainly many people he would like to apologize to. There are certainly many things he wishes he could have done differently. But Saber nonetheless treats the ups and downs of his life as a matter of course upon being summoned, preferring to focus on the now and obeying orders to the best of his ability. He lacks any desire for the Grail to speak of, save perhaps to make those impossible meetings come true to give out said apologies. But perhaps, if it were possible... “Just once, I’d like to save someone in front of me with a smile.” In the end, he is a simple sort of idiot: the kind that protests injustice and can never stand seeing someone in front of him cry. At this Rank, even High Thaumaturgy and Greater Rituals are pressed to affect him. Even that great mage from Colchis was hesitant to trifle with Saber directly. The divine od suffusing his body will surely overwhelm most magecraft. Riding: A. Ability to “ride things” ranging from animals to vehicles. Great skill can be showcased even with those transports that did not exist within the Servant’s lifetime, no matter the complexity. Saber himself says that it would have been displayed to an even higher degree had he been summoned as a Rider. ...Is this aptitude, too, a part of the inheritance he received from the Sea God? Who knows. Personal Skills Blessings of the Sea God: A. A variation of Divinity. According to the legends, having been imbued with Poseidon’s essence alongside that of Aegeus, Saber was a much-beloved child of the Sea God, and those affections are still found within the skill. His aptitude as a Divine Spirit is not as high as the rank would imply, but he has been endowed with the capacity to walk on water, and a constant effect of strong “replenishment” occurs so long as he stays in water. …While those children of his on land were seen as familiars more than proper sons or daughters, there can be no doubt that among them all, Saber was uniquely favored. Eye of the Mind (False): B. A skill of danger avoidance based on a disposition to sense it, giving one the capacity to “escape a predicament”. A talent Saber was blessed with from birth. However, it was then further refined across his many adventures in that ship, on the lands of Attica and even beyond as his experience grew and grew. The combination of the inborn aptitude and developed techniques of a hero that never once lost a fight in his lifetime. Self-Modification: EX Ability to change one’s own body, or merge one’s own flesh with another’s. It was not gained due to a “deed” in the legend, but rather acquired following his deification due to the popularization of the “Ship of Theseus” paradox. Normally, presenting the skill at Elimination-Class would cause massive changes to the Servant in both body and mind, but due to its origin, it appears that his Saint Graph has acquired the quality of “no matter what happens, Theseus will always remain Theseus”. Pankration: A+++ The ancient martial art of Greece. Alongside Heracles, Saber is said to have been one of its creators. Fundamentally speaking, it is a fighting form involving boxing, kicks and wrestling maneuvers. Saber would offhandedly comment that there is not much of a “deeper meaning” to it, unlike the philosophies of Eastern martial arts schools, and refers to its core aspect as simply “identification of weakness, followed by swift and absolute destruction”. A true “anything goes” style of combat. The only absurdity, then, is how both he and that man took something that was designed to “defeat other humans” and wielded it in order to “surpass and slay what exists beyond humanity.” Truly, those arms won’t lose out even to a Divine Bull’s all-out charge…is what the person himself said. Saber’s curses. In a certain episode of the legend, he had to prove his claim to being Poseidon’s son by diving underwater after a ring Minos had thrown and returning it. While swimming, he reached his father, who gave him the ring and promised to “grant Theseus’ wishes”. Indeed, if nothing else, this act alone speaks of the fact that Saber had “value” for the god that exceeded that of his siblings. Fundamentally speaking, the Noble Phantasm itself is just the ability for Saber to communicate with his father, taking a similar form to the link extant between a familiar and its master—albeit suitably stouter. Poseidon himself then oversees matters and acts as support. It is doubtlessly an amazingly useful Noble Phantasm, but it also brought Saber no small amount of grief due to thoughtless words spat out in anger. The love of the gods...it is, certainly, heavy. Ethos Ariadne
Proof of a Tear-Filled Love
Rank: B Type: Anti-Unit, Anti-Army Maximum Number of Targets: “As the situation demands” Range: “As the situation demands” In the tale, princess Ariadne is most often remembered for giving Saber a string to serve as his guide within the labyrinth. Even after he left her in Naxos on the command of the gods, he kept it as the last memento of a girl who loved him. It appears to take the place of his main weapon as a Saber by being fused with the “empty” sword of his father that he wielded throughout his life. The string was originally meant to be endless and unbreakable, and could be controlled through magical energy to shift forms and targets. These properties are now found in the sword, allowing it to extend, twist and turn in ways normal metal would be unable to. The fundamental difference, however, appears to be the fact that due to being thoughtlessly mixed with a “sword”, the concept of “Connection” materialized through the string was shifted to one of “Severance” held by the blade. Generally, Saber uses it in ways unbefitting of a sword in order to trip up the opponent. Should the True Name be released, all attributes would be raised at the cost of an increase in magical energy consumption. In particular, extension and contraction speed alongside the potency of the “Severance” effect would be boosted to incredible levels. When questioned about the Anti-Army nature of the Noble Phantasm, he is prone to just shrugging and saying that “well, if I extend it to full, I should be able to cut an army in one swing, right?” ...That being said, when he discovered the “severance” effect, the only thing he showed was a bitter smile. Maybe eradicate Starbucks.” Character Objectives: “Keep my shop unharmed by all the nonsense going on.” Biographical The Alinejad family, hailing from the Middle East, are the owners of the café chain Oasis. As far as their practices go, they have opened stores all over the world. Customer and critic reviews regarding both efficiency and quality of their brews are consistently exemplary. According to the history of the chain’s first shop — still open for use, mind — it was founded over 900 years ago and never changed hands out of the family once, so it can be called a household name among household names. Within the context of magi, their craft is particularly appreciated by students and teachers of the Clock Tower alike, and they would be lying if they said that they don’t line their pockets with the benefits from a booming business. The man himself happens to be the latest head of the family and, consequently, the owner of the entire chain — albeit he still works the front desk with the best of them. Homeschooled according to the family values, he knew how to brew a perfect espresso before he could read, and was subsequently taught the intricacies of the family’s path toward the place that has no name. Toward the end of his teenage years, he was sent to the Clock Tower in order to foment his “personal development”, and gravitated toward the faculty of Folklore once he had left the fundamentals behind. With regards to his personality, most people from his student years will fondly remember him to be about as bitter as what he serves people, as well as blunt to a fault. Forgoing niceties, he simply acts how he feels he should act at a given moment and does not hesitate, carving out the façade of the “perfectly coldhearted” magus. But at the same time, he is prone to hiding bits of genuine advice and concern within the verbal abuse, so one could say that is the one crack. With regards to his current situation, one could call it a bit of an unfortunate, annoyingly nonsensical accident. As it so happens, he was coping around for the opening month of the newest show in the chain, and this coincided with the timetable for the War. And now, he must boldly protect his café from all manner of idiots at night while serving people flawlessly during the day. He complains that he never signed up for the night guard shift. Attribute: Reinforcement As an attribute, it primarily uses tools, strengthens materials and reinforces fragile components. It is rather simple, but nonetheless a useful tool to wield. However, the family is confident in having “mastered it”. This means that they have moved from the purely physical aspects and advanced to the capacity to “enhance the significance of an existence.” Divine Drink The core focus in Alinejad’s search for the place that has no name. In their homeland, there is a certain tradition that speaks of the legend of Muhammad first receiving coffee from the Archangel Gabriel as something to strengthen him. This tale forms the basis of the idea of coffee as a “divine drink” that was passed down to mortals. If one drinks the same as the gods, is one not a god? Imbibing the concoction is meant to make one “closer to God”, purging impurities and enhancing their own existence beyond that of a human, inducing a rhapsody where one perceives divinity and walks closer to it. The theoretical end result, then, is to “make oneself a god by drinking their draught.” This is further solidified by using it in tandem with Sufi practices regarding ritual purification and prayer. As the man himself tend to say about the “special brew”, it is the result of a thousand-year-long (rounded up) odyssey of coffee-making. Islamic Mysticism Refers to general practices within the context of Islam. Outside of what can be applied to “coffee”, they do not see much use, but protective charms and good fortune can be achieved by writing the names of and praising Allah, ward oneself or places from evil spirits and misfortune, and guarantee safety. In particular, one of the reasons he had gone personally in addition to train the staff had been to set up the proper preparations in order to make the shop a “nexus of good fortune”.
