I have had the fortune of seeing skies that lacked interference from man-made light. How dark and seemingly infinite it is at night leads me to understand why some people are terrified of this. How large all of it is and how infinitely small man, in turn, is too.
I live in Eastern Massachusetts where light pollution is dominant. One might be able to see 6 - 12 stars in the night sky. I grew up in the mountains of Western Massachusetts where one can actually see the glory of the Milky Way in all of its splendor. I took my children on a camping trip back home so they could see it too. It is truly amazing; the billions of points of light in the night sky.
