[color=teal][b]Type of Government:[/b][/color] The Rhaetians developed a hierarchical government ruled by a Prince or Princess, in close association with powerful mages. They live in rural communities and large urban ceremonial centres. Warfare and magic play an important role in power and prestige. Magic is woven into all facets of daily life and is the major unifying factor of the civilization. 

[color=teal][b]Religion:[/b][/color] The Rhaetians worship magic as the ultimate creating and unifying force of the land. Mages are highly powerful both in their ability to wield magic, but also as part of the ruling class. Rhaetian mages are known to range far and wide with small armies looking for powerful magical artifacts. They can sometimes mean risking dangerous journeys through portals to other worlds or mortal planes in search of those same artifacts. Their arrival on this world was triggered by the destruction of the moon and the resulting shift in magical power. As the Moonshards fell to earth and slammed into the earth they created Moonwells, the most powerful of which has drawn Rhaetians in and become the focal point of their new settlement.

The Rhaetians came into this world through a portal that allowed them to travel through the cosmos and various planes of being. Their arrival was precipitated by the destruction of this worlds moon, an event so powerful that it sent ripples through the very fabric of magic that unites all worlds and dimensional planes. 

Alerted to the cataclysm, and ever aware that the forces of chaos and destruction seek weakened lands to claim as their own, the High Elves of Rhaetia chose to dispatch a powerful force under the command of Princess Aranalda Larethaine to this world that has never known their presence. 

The Rhaetians have come to collect the Moonshards and, if possible, to put the moon back in the sky, thereby restoring the balance to this world. Failure to do so could create opportunity for races far less wise and well-meaning to open their own portals into this land.

The portal that brought the Rhaetians focused on the single most powerful magical source the world possessed, a greatest of the Moonwells. Their arrival interrupted a clan of Dark Trolls who lived in the region and worshipped the site. In the name of the Greater Good, the Rhaetians destroyed the Dark Trolls and have claimed the region as their own. 

Since their arrival the continued destruction of Moonshards by the unwitting and greedy races of the world has led to a continued destabilization of the cosmos. This has rendered the Rhaetians unable to communicate with home or to travel back. They are, in effect, trapped in this new land. Only putting the moon back together may save them from becoming permanent residents of this land.
