A sprawling metropolis full of twinkling lights, lavish restaurants, and an unfortunate smell that comes from some of the storm drains every now and again, it is the go-to place for the young and old alike to come and seek their fortune. More than that, it’s the go-to place for Inscribed and Mundies alike to try and seek their fortune. Key word, of course, being try. Every one in twenty people is born with something called an Epithet: a word written on their soul from the moment they come into this world, to the moment they leave it. This one word allows them to tap into a variety of talents and abilities, though whether those abilities could be called “useful” depends on the kind of word you happened to be born with. The luckier of the population might find themselves with “fire”, or “clairvoyance”, or even “miracle”. Then there are the not so lucky. “Lotion”. “Boredom”. “Egg”. Words necessary for everyday vocabulary, but not usually what would come to mind when you thought of superpowers. Rather than having their powers fall into their lap, these Inscribed are forced to be creative about the use you can get from a word like “chair”. Additionally, not only do Epithets make certain people more lucky than the rest of the population, but they grease the wheels of life for their users in other ways, too. Why hire that hard-working Mundie fresh from medical school, when someone with a “healer” Epithet is already waiting at the door? Why give the architect a chance when “skyscraper”, “bridge”, and “foundation” can do what would take months for him in seconds? Not only does this force Mundies to work even harder for their lot, but it also causes conflict between Inscribed. If, for instance, an Inscribed hoped to be a fisherman, and their Epithet was “bread”, they would be politely directed to the bakery job down the street instead of encouraged. But Fairmouth promises to be a land of opportunity for all, Mundie and Inscribed alike. Here, it says, you can be whatever you want, Epithet be damned. But some might find that to not be entirely true. And some might find that this so-called freedom might encourage the wrong kind of people. Regardless of who you are or what you do, you have found yourself in Fairmouth City. The question now is: what will happen now?
Welcome, one and all, to Fairmouth City: an Epithet Erased/Anime Campaign inspired RP! I fell in love with the system after watching EE, and though the whole Epithet system is going to be used for the story, the plot and setting, along with a few other things, are going to be different. Fairmouth City is intended to be a semi-sandbox roleplay, but with various arcs and plots for characters to come together in. My hope is for these arcs to have a large emphasis on the characters, and for the players to offer their own plots and story beats to keep things flowing. As for the tone, though it won’t be intended to be wholly slice-of-lifey, or as cartoony as the source material, I embrace any and all silliness that comes the way of the RP. What I’m getting at is essentially that both seriousness and absurdity are welcome. With that said, though, I do have some rules and guidelines, along with some suggestions and tips about creating an Inscribed or Mundie character.
- Basic rules apply. No powerplaying, no unfairly overpowered characters, no stealing content, so on and so forth. - I would greatly appreciate it if you could discuss any big plot ideas with me! I don’t mind character based arcs cropping up, but if you have something major in mind, I would like to know, just in case I already have something planned. - Keep things civil OOC. - There’s not going to be any real posting order, but a good rule of thumb would probably be to wait two posts after your most recent post before putting another one up. - I would greatly appreciate if you could give me a heads up before leaving! Even if things are slow or inactive at the time being, just a quick message of “hey I’m dipping out of the roleplay” would be appreciated. - Be creative, and have fun! Usually people realize that they have an Epithet once they understand language: a baby, who has no idea what words mean, won’t be able to tap into their powers. - Tied into this, an Inscribed’s use of their Epithet is tied to their perception of the word, and how creative they can get with it. If someone has the word “dough”, they can take it as the food type of dough, the money type of dough, or even both. They can use this to manifest dough/money, make dough that can heal someone, and just generally get weird. Feel free to play around with a word and associations to an extent. If you have the word “lamp” and you want water abilities to come from it, you need to give me an explanation as to why, and where that logic comes from. If you can give a good explanation, then go nuts! - Epithets are not genetic. Two Mundies can have an Inscribed baby, and two Inscribed can have a Mundie baby. - If an Inscribed is skilled enough, they can more or less enchant an object with their Epithet. - Twins are usually the only people able to share an Epithet, but this isn’t common. - In some cases, a person’s Epithet will have effects on them, negative or otherwise.

- The regular people, more or less. - Because the world is weird, Mundies are allowed to have abilities to an extent. They can be superhuman in their own ways, like extreme athleticism or speed in building or other things, but they shouldn’t be able to shoot out fire or manipulate time or anything like that. - That’s about it.

Gable Clinic: A clinic situated in a more questionable side of the city. Clean and well-maintained, you can receive treatment for colds, cuts, missing parts, too many parts, and so on. The owner accepts payment in money, trades, and favors (these favors often decided at a much later date). General City Areas: Pretty much what you would expect from a city. Parks, hospitals, apartment buildings, so on. Feel free to add to this if your character runs a business, or goes anywhere that you would like mentioned!

(An image isn't needed, but feel free to add one if you want one in. Otherwise, you can delete this bit.) Full Name: Nicknames/Aliases: Age: Gender: Epithet: (If applicable. If the person is an Inscribed, put their Epithet, and give a brief description of what it can do. If they’re a Mundie, replace this with “Mundie”, please.) Abilities: Three or so is a good number. What can they do that’s noteworthy? Weapons: Any notable weapons or such they carry on them? These can range from anything as practical as guns or knives, to the absurd. Parasols, crossbows, a dumbbell they like to throw at people, etc. Description: (What do they look like? Even if you've got a picture, a bit of writing would be nice. Include their usual attire, any notable scarring or markings, etc.) Personality:(A brief outline of their demeanor.) Skills: (Practical skills, outside of their Epithet, or weird unnatural skills if they’re a Mundie and have any. Things like sharpshooting, first-aid, and other things would go under here, along with their talents.) Weaknesses: (Achilles' Heels that can be exploited by enemies.) Brief History: (Any notable events in their background that might have shaped them. If you don't want to reveal too much, that's fine! You can make this as long as you want, or you can just give a few bullet points of information, I’m not picky. As long as you give me the essentials, we’re good to go. Other: (Anything else you think everyone needs to know about your character.)
