REX

…

Nearly tripping over Sophie instead of into her, Rex barely managed to stop himself from falling to the ground. Before, he had hardly enough time to register what was happening to Sophie; now, Rex recognized who he had so impolitely rammed into. Rex had never gotten the feeling that this particular individual liked him, and now, he could be certain she didn’t. And for the eager to please Rex, there were few things worse than someone who disliked him.

With distraught vigor, he winced as the full force of the other adventures secondhand ashamedness bore down upon him. Several onlookers he recognized, but of them, not many had actually met him before. Would this be their first impression of Rex’s self, a bumbling oaf whose manners rivaled orcs? Embarrassment seized him as Rex now realized the potential damage to his public image. He visibly deflated while his tail sunk between his legs, and his expression once full of excitement now only reflected mortification. This was before anyone had even opened their mouth to chide him.

First came Nehir. With a startled jolt Rex had turned to face the source of the noise, but look straight he failed to identify its origin. Only after Nehir spoke again did Rex look down and see him, standing there with his chest puffed out and hand on his hip. Mayhaps any other adventurer would fail to be intimidated by this tiny man, but Rex was a special case. Nehir had hardly finished his first sentence before Rex fell to the hall’s floor and prostrated before him.

”I’m sorry!” followed each clause Nehir berated him with, and every sentence finished marked a new low to which his head sunk towards the ground. Since Rex had lowered himself to the ground in apology, Nehir had actually succeeded in staring him down. ”I won’t do it again! I promise! I don’t want to be stuck on rat clearing duty for a year!”

A small circle had surrounded the three parties currently involved, and with Ifari’s arrival that number rose to four. Ifari, showing up midway into this affair, was just in time to see Rex practically kissing the floor. Hearing the prospect of being offered work, and entirely misjudging his teasing tone, Rex began to rise from the ground to inquire further...

But then came Sophie, having finally gathered her bearings after their collision. Before she even spoke, the hairs on the back of Rex’s neck stood up; as he raised himself out of his practiced position of apology, the aura he felt was not all that dissimilar to murderous intent.

“...As if a true adventurer would be so braindead and ignorant about their surroundings as to blunder around like that!...”

Returning to his feet, Rex's head still stared straight towards the ground. Even as a six and a half foot anomaly of his species, in this moment, Rex resembled a very sad puppy. “I’m… not a true adventurer?” he murmured miserably. Flustered, he continued. ”I… I’m real sorry. I’ve-uh, always been a lil’ clumsy. Please. Let me make this up to you!”
[@VitaVitaAR][@ghastlyinc][@Silverpaw]
