World Traveler Playing Devin Coal Character Connection with Noah Devin and Noah were quick to make friends due to them being in the same house and being pretty even tempered during the whole first year. Sharing study hall breaks and a few midnight cram sessions together help build a healthy same house friendship through the years. Due to growing up in a mostly muggle household meant Devin was jealous that Noah had a magical pet and would shower it with love and affection at any chance he got. Staying in touch through owls and the lucky meeting in New York, the two shared the news of their invitation to Hogwarts around the same time. The friendship continued past their school years, but was primarily kept alive through owls and a fortunate crossing of paths in New York City where they got lunch and drank long into the night while laughing at new and old stories alike. Later they each shared with the other that they had been invited to teach at Hogwarts and had accepted the position. They have since been arguing over what drink they should toast the news to when they arrived at the school. Character Connection with Thomas Since they had their first Charms class together Devin and Thomas have had a fairly public rivalry. This competitive spirit between the two wasn't born from resentment or distrust, but instead a simple case of 'boys will be boys'. The friendly rivalry also helped them grow into the young men that they have become as they, through their time at school and beyond, continually pushed each other. If one got a date to a dance the other had to push through nerves and worry of embarrassment and fess up and ask a gal so at least he could say he tried. When one got a mention in the Daily Prophet after leading a successful project in their line of work the other would be unfortunate to receive an extra copy of it mailed to them by the other. At one point during their time in school the two somehow came to the conclusion that the other was worst at divination. Unfortunately this was a class neither of them had any real talent in. This lead to a two week long contest that involved both of them forcing all their friends to drink tea and compete over reading the leafs. Needless to say it only finally stopped when neither of them were that good and they called it off after they declared everyone who drank tea was going to die, eventually. Character Connection with Elliot Elliot and Devin weren't that terribly close during school. Never enemies or friends they were just two students in the same year as far as their opinions of each other went. It wasn't until they connected during one of Elliot's research trips that they started a friendship. Devin was in the process of mapping out a new Impundulu collective and their migration patterns. While in Africa Elliot reached out having been told Devin had experience traveling in the magical community of Africa. They met up and quickly found they enjoyed learning about each others work. They both spoke to them with such energy it got hard to stop them once they got started. Over the years their friendship continued with each letting the other know when a trip was on their horizon. Sometimes their trips or adventures would line up making for a pleasant surprise while other times they were used as an excuse to travel and see what the other was studying. Their academic friendship makes the fact that now both have accepted the teaching roles extended to them all the more excited for the new adventure in a familiar place. Character Connection with Bex Bex is a friend of Noah that Devin knows. That is, for the most part, the extent of their connection as far as either are concerned. Devin has never been overly annoyed by one of her tricks, mostly due to being within close proximity of Noah who was giving him a heads up. They had maybe one or two school projects where they partnered up, but every time that happened they studied with Noah and his partner as well. Truthfully, wand to his head, Devin couldn’t recall a single time the two of them had hung out without Noah. This may have been due to the fact that Devin never really ‘got’ Bex. Like many he had heard of the weirdness here and there, but considering his Muggle upbringing he never seemed to have a real graph on what was normal in the magical world especially normal according to Hogwarts. One example was in the span of a week Devin approached Noah to ask if Bex had a crush on him, hated him, was obsessed with him, was somehow enraged by his haircut, and had tried to poison him. Devin had found out about Bex getting the job as the herbology professor through Noah. Considering she helped him pass more than one end of year exam he wasn’t surprised, but did wonder how she was going to handle being the leader of order in a classroom rather than the sower of chaos. Character Connection with Naia Naia and Devin have known each other well enough since their second year. That was the first time they were sat close enough to each other in charms class. After you met Naia you would have a difficult time forgetting her. She had a unique skill to throw a net out and wrangle everyone caught by it involved in some sort of tomfoolery. One such time caused a rather awkward situation for Devin that he remembers to this day. After having seen a unicorn it was widely known that Devin was trying all sorts of ways to see them again. He was approached by Naia who said she would go into the Forbidden Forest with him which caused him much excitement. Unfortunately due to his own inability to understand the opposite sex and some very poor advice from his friends Devin had concluded that Naia had asked him out on a date. Later that evening after they had left the school grounds under the cover of night Devin began to act a little weird. His nerves seemed to get the best of him during every conversation. The penultimate moment of awkwardness came when they reached the same meadow and after sitting down and relaxing Devin leaned in for a kiss only to have Naia lean back and avoid the act. For several weeks after that fateful night Devin was too embarrassed to be in the same room as Naia. He finally got over it, but Naia always knew when to have a playful poke at his admittedly accepted expense. She never meant any malice by her bringing it up, but it didn’t stop him from wishing he had just died that night in the meadow. Character Connection with Dragana WORK IN PROGRESS
