Yet there is a world below that. One that enables everything above it. A boring world of grey, drab suits wandering into boring, clean, white buildings to type away at mass-produced dull computers. Yet in this world, millions flow at the press of a button. It's a world that knows only a few competitors, each more akin to an empire than a firm. One of the biggest is Bank of Europa. Anyone worth more than half a billion has used BoE's services at some point in their lives. Even if it was through subsidiaries or daughter firms. This world knows one king and queen: Nicolas B. Hunter and Joanna S. Thompson. Like the empire they control, they dress boring and as the jet setโ€™s boring accountants, they are rarely invited to fabulous parties. Only to board meetings. This suits them just fine. They live calm, peaceful lives. Deemed even too boring by the press, despite their vast access to wealth. So like any good family, they got children. When Michael came into their lives as a second child, they were overjoyed. Michael went to a local school, not one for high society. Though he was told from a very young age to never speak about his parentโ€™s wealth. His classmates knew they were wealthy, just not how wealthy. But they were good parents and always showed up for a teacherโ€™s conference or a school play. The donations to the school certainly helped them be received with open arms. And so Michaelโ€™s life continued undisturbed and as normal as it could. As he grew up, it became more and more clear that he truly was the product of his parentโ€™s life. His talent in maths and history were the first signs of it. Later in life, he took an acute interest in computer programming and algorithms. At the age of 14, he created a stock exchange algorithm (which his parents capitalized for him). Then, at the age of 15โ€ฆnothing happened. No teenage rebellion. No โ€œsecretโ€ chats with girls. Physically he was growing into a man. The Latin phrase: 'Mens sana In corpore sano' was not lost to him. Yet emotionally he grew into even more a recluse, often hiding away in his room as he tinkered on his latest program. His parents got, rightfully so, worried. Even more so when one of Mikeโ€™s friend's mother called to ask if Mike would attend the Sweet Sixteen party. When confronted by his parents he said he forgot but that he would prefer to stay at home and read a white paper. His parents forced him to go to the girlโ€™s party. Rumor has it that she had a crush on the nerdy boy and confessed that night. Is it true? Maybe. Nobody knows for sure. They only know that Mike ran away from the party and the girl cried for most of the remaining night. Perhaps it's unrelated? After the incident, his parents had enough. All his grades were exemplar but if he remained such a hermit, he wouldnโ€™t be able to handle real life. So they sent him to the one place that would break him. A place filled with loud, trouble-making Americans. Alexandrina Preparatory School.[/sup] [/cell] [/row]
