Kami requires the presence of her spiders to work as "links" in order to control people. Captain Awesome isn't going to allow any of those spiders to get into Hope, as he can use God's Eye to sense whenever one moves through a portal. That's why Kami needed to use Moonbeam as intermediary. However, I've dealt with it in a MUCH more dangerous way.
