Roxy had no problem being called a reaper. It was a good description as any for what she did. She had been called worse. She pointed at the disgraced mage. "How exactly does he fit the role of the scholar?" Her voice dripped with sarcasm. She didn't mean it as an insult. She was sure that the mage had to study but so did every other magic users. Hell there were schools full of scholars. She was sure that the king had someone on his payroll whose job it was to study stuff. "His skills match what is required." The duke assured her snootily. "Let's say I buy that the scholar here is willing to work his way into your good graces. If your advisors have done any kind of research they know I don't kill for money or politics. I have very specific requirements for the jobs I take." Roxy knew that made it sound like she didn't care if the girl died or not but it wasn't that. While she didn't know the Princess she didn't want the girl's death on her head. "Are you saying my daughter's death doesn't fit those requirements?" The king asked. It was a grey area. Technically the princess had been attacked through no fault of her own. "Your daughter has people that will protect her. Heck half the assassins guild would do it just to get the price off their heads." "We'll take the price off yours." The duke offered obviouslythinking that had been her goal. Roxy stormed over to him. She tapped him on the nose. "You're not very smart are you?" She had had William, one of her rescues, turn her in. He had taken the bounty. She trusted him to use the money to pay supplies for the safe house. "There currently a bounty on my head." "I'm grasping at straws. This is my last hope to save my daughter." Roxy sighed. She turned towards the king. The tears in his eyes convinced her that he cared about his daughter. That was enough for her. "Fine. Continue." She gave in.
