Most of him is pretty normal, but toward his extremities his skin becomes darker and rubbery, almost plantlike in form and composition. His hands and fingers are a little larger and thicker than normal because of this. His standout feature, however, is his head. With his skin going plantlike at the neck, his head is a green-tinged black bulb with shoulder-length, vinelike cords for hair. While his mouth is pretty normal, albeit with thin lips, and so is his nose, his eyes are uncanny. Five of them occupy his lower forehead, with the middle completely vertical above the nose and the two on either side lower and tilted toward the center. Like all the eyes his quirk can create, Hora's eyes have whites that fluctuate between yellow and light green, with glowing purple diamond-shaped pupils and concentric irises that constantly expand from the pupils, starting out purple but darkening to read before dissipating into the 'white'.
[sub]Characterization[/sub]
The Hora most people know is distant, surly, and vindictive, the sort who rarely speaks up on his own but is quick to respond to a challenge or slight. He is indeed defensive, but not out of malice or an overabundance of pride; rather, he strives to keep himself in one piece mentally by looking after himself and not subjecting himself to any sort of suffering. While he cares about others' thoughts and opinions -and really, others in general- he's quick to cut out anything that he perceives as toxic or damaging, which makes him seem judgmental, intolerant, and strict...to strangers, that is. To anyone who might treat him with respect of friendliness, however, Hora's someone else entirely. He's more receptive than a satellite dish and will bend over backwards to repay those who're good to him in kind. With people he like's he's talkative (even to the point of gushing about things he likes), quick with a joke (even bad ones), and self-sacrificially loyal. It's noteworthy that, due to his quirk, he's a bit attention-starved and quite touch-starved. In short, others can expect him to echo their treatment of him. Kindness should be rewarded, and unkindness should be punished. Overall, he means well, and wishes the best for people as a whole.
[sub]Personal History[/sub]
Hora grew up in the small but charming town of Mashike on the island of Hokkaido, and during every stage of his life his quirk has played a constant part. While both of his parents had mutation-type quirks, neither of them sported nearly the disfiguration that their son did. Still, given the frequency of mutation-type quirks among the populace, things wouldn't have been different for Hora if not for the particulars. Aversion drove people off, compelling them to look away and flinch from touch, and that left Hora friendless and isolated. He wanted to socialize and communicate, but he didn't really know how to approach people and -for a time- hated himself. He felt ostracized, blaming himself for others rejecting him. His parents were no idiots, however, and knew that such treatment could lead him down a dark path, so they made especially sure to love him with all their hearts. Even during hard times when money was scarce as Hora's parents clashed frequently on what was best for their little family, they purposefully worked to keep things together. In the end, the family's bonds held. With his parents' love, and with the adoration of his baby brother, Hora grew to be someone who wanted to see others smiling, healthy, and happy. Still, he remained somewhat prickly and defensive, preferring to spend his afternoons and evenings outdoors roaming the chilly countryside, keeping company with the birds, squirrels, and trees. In his adolescence Hora looked after himself, working hard in school and enjoying time with a few friends when possible. He never again hated himself; in fact, he refused to. He wouldn't let anyone make him, and if anyone tried, he shut them out. Hora stuck to those who 'really mattered' in his mind, those who could see him for who he really was. When others looked down on him he worked to prove them wrong. When someone thought he couldn't do something, his heart drove him to get it done. That attitude propelled him near the top of his class, a position in student government, and even the acclaim of his fellow students as he won a sort of pageant called Number One in his senior year—not for looks, or for popularity, but for spirit. While he had the idea from an early age, it was a chance encounter that solidified his path in life. One day a cargo ship lost control in the nearby sea, and barreled toward Mashike without a way to slow it down. Hora, having been lazing around in a tree by the docks that evening, saw the whole thing. Filled with horror at the idea of the ship crashing into the harbor and causing untold destruction, he was filled with the urge to do something. He wanting to the water's edge and try to avert the ship with his quirk, but he was too terrified to move. Instead, a hero came to the rescue. Swashbuckler, a heroine who often worked with the coast guard, appeared to fill the harbor with a massive amount of seafoam that slowed the ship's approach and averted catastrophe. Afterward, Hora approached Swashbuckler with shining eyes to tell her that he wanted to be a hero too and use his quirk to do awesome thing like that, but the pirate hero couldn't meet his gaze. “I'm sorry,” she told him, “But people expert heroes to look a certain way, and have flashy quirks. You couldn't possible become a hero.” That sentence hurt, but it lit a fire beneath Hora. It was the ultimate challenge—the ultimate way to prove everyone wrong about him. He renewed his studies and sought to apply at the toughest school he could find, ready and willing to do whatever it took to become a legendary hero, beloved by all.
[sub]Character Development & Conceptualization[/sub]
The motivating force behind Hora to begin with is spite. He's a character whose circumstances perfectly set up a resentful outcast archetype, but because he was treated with love and raised well, he knows that such behavior would be destructive and self-indulgent, and chooses to be better than that. Instead, he is self-assertive, though not in a bullying sort of way. Monstrous of appearance and often neglected and maligned as a person, he want to stick it to everyone who ever thought poorly of him as he grew up, or who might see him and think of him as hideous or a villain, by becoming a hero renowned for his compassion and diligence--'kill 'em with kindness' is his axiom. While it's occurred to him that becoming a famous and beloved hero would also help to reassure and inspire others with deforming mutation-type quirks struggling through life, and teach them that one's quirk doesn't inform one's destiny, that notion is absolutely secondary to the first. However, it doesn't have to stay that way. As he develops, Hora might discover that helping people is more of an end than a means to an end. The secondary motivation might eclipse his first, and he could let go of his spite in order to become that compassionate and diligent hero wholeheartedly, who stands as a beacon to those who might think themselves accursed because of their genes. Of course, that's the endgame, and it's only one possibilities. Deciding to do something based on spite is a gamble: betting that one has what it takes to do what others say they can't. Hora may not have what it takes. He's tackling Ishin for the challenge, to be molded into the sort of exemplary hero that Ishin's designed for, but he's not a genius, a natural hero, or a whiz kid. He'll have a tough time at the school, both at the courses and at cultivating the personality of a hero. It may end up being too much for him, and despite his potential he could find his dream deferred. It'll depend on the sort of people that reach out to help him on the way, if any reach out at all. Still, he's not out to be some pity case at all and will try to reach out on its own, so I see him playing off other personalities a lot. His relationships among other students, and his ultimate fate, I'm very interested to see to fruition.

Abilities & Talents

[sub]Quirk Type[/sub]
Mutation
[sub]Quirk Description[/sub]
Aversion manifests through eyelike biological structures. While it applies to Hora's real eyes, the others -which can be quickly grown and afterward absorbed at will on any part of his body large enough- are vestigial and nonfunctional for sight. When an eye is open, it exerts a psychic pressure that incites aversion. This includes visual aversion (making others want to look away from him), touch aversion (making others uncomfortable and even unwilling to touch him), and audio aversion (compels others to want to stop hearing him). The feeling of aversion has been inscribed as instinctual or primeval, like fingernails on a chalkboard or something highly disgusting. Once made, Hora can 'flex' his eyes to increase the effect, forcibly preventing others from looking at him and making it much harder to touch him. If flexed strongly enough, Hora's eyes can incite aversion in nonliving things as well, diverting their paths to not avoid him. Opening new eyes to use takes both focus and stamina, with more eyes taking so much focus that Hora can't do much else while keeping them open, be it defending himself, staying aware of threats, or even moving. Flexing is even more taxing, making Hora tired faster and taking more focus. Developmental paths for this quirk include more eyes, more types of aversion, aversion type specificity, flex strength, and redirection.
[sub]Other Talents & Attributes[/sub]
Most of Hora's skills stem from his outdoorsiness. A good runner, swimmer, and climber, he boasts a natural agility and stamina that long practice have only accentuated. Surprisingly good with his hands, Hora can craft and tie basic things with ease. He can light fires, catch fish, and prepare simple meals without any issue. This even extends to setting up hammocks or tents, and he knows a bunch about various common plants and animals.
