Even so, she has an athletic figure that she doesn't mind flaunting and proudly shows off her prosthetic every chance she gets. It's a labor of love, after all! As an exercise in patience, she has been growing her hair for years, curious to see how long it would take before she gets completely bored of it. Currently, it reaches well past her hips and she has taken to putting up in a braid to keep it out of the way. Nao prefers dressing for comfort: yoga pants and tights and leggings, plus any top that'll make the ensemble cute. She has a trusty pair of white (and slowly greying) sneakers that she wears with everything. [sub]Personality[/sub] [sup]━━━━━━━━═☆[/sup] On the surface she is a starry-eyed romantic, charming and contagious in her easy laughter and unabashed sense of fun. Befriending people and Pokémon come naturally, in part because of her candor; there is no suspecting her motives as she bares her thoughts and feelings like an open book. On the flip side, lying is nearly impossible for her. In her many previous attempts, she has either blurted out the truth after a while or ended up with a super elaborate and convoluted story that no sane person would ever believe. It's almost hard to believe that beneath her brand of silliness and carefreeness lies a creative and inquisitive mind, keen on learning. Nao possesses bravado in abundance, and in her voracious desire to learn and explore, she tends to proactively chase new experiences with almost reckless abandon. She figures that if anything goes wrong, she can just think her way out of it. [sub]Short Biography[/sub] [sup]━━━━━━━━═☆[/sup] Although born in Jubilife City in Sinnoh, Nao's parents relocated to the more rural New Bark Town to raise her away from the hustle and bustle of the sprawling city. Her father gave up his esteemed position as lead engineer in the Pokétch Company and opened up a local business, often working for the lab and nearby Pokémon Centers. Growing up, Nao picked up on her dad's passion for tinkering and mechanics and has worked on countless projects and contraptions since, alongside her best friend and partner, Fritz the Porygon. When she was ten, a fateful trip to the National Park changed her life. Her parents had taken her there to participate in the Bug-Catching contest. Ever the inquisitive soul, Nao wandered deep in the woods, wondering what rare bug-type could be found there. She got her answer pretty quickly, after accidentally stumbling across a sleeping Scyther's den. Nao had frightened the Scyther awake, and in its alarm, it had blindly lashed out at her and caught her arm. She doesn't remember much beyond the searing pain that knocked her unconscious within seconds. It was unlike anything she'd ever felt, and in the years to come, she would realize that it would raise her threshold for pain considerably. In any case, she must have screamed because someone found her before she'd lost too much blood. Her parents said she was in the hospital for nearly a week. Waking up with a strange, indescribable sense of loss is one thing she did remember. It took her a while to process. At first, there was a lot of confusion when her attempts to rub her eyes with her hand amounted to nothing. And even more when she realized she couldn't clench her fist, as she tended to do when she was anxious. But once realization did hit—after the bandages came off and she finally got to see what was taken from her—Nao found she was able to easily accept and adapt to her new reality. It had been scarier not knowing. Getting used to a missing limb was difficult, but once she received her first prosthesis, Nao thrived in the new challenges that awaited her. She relearned everything with her non-dominant left hand and was particularly fascinated with tinkering with her new arm. Aside from the sudden overprotectiveness and coddling from her parents—and many of her friends and neighbors—Nao found her life didn't change as drastically as she would have thought. She spent the years as she would have with both limbs, adventuring with friends and tinkering and inventing with her partner. She even met her soulmate—a Golett abandoned because of a birth defect; one with a missing limb like hers—not too long ago. It wasn't until she turned eighteen that she managed to persuade her parents to let her travel, and they only relented because she would be among friends. They've known each other long before his family had moved to New Bark Town, as their dads were best friends in college and continued to be close decades later. Nao was overjoyed to hear he was moving to town. Having more Squegg in her life was everything she wanted and more, and having Judas as a neighbor was pretty cool, too. When he came home with Ace, Nao became more determined than ever to conquer her stupid phobia, although she hasn't made much progress. Ever since they've learned about his father's disappearance, Nao and her dad have been working nonstop on devices that could help the search. In particular, they've developed a Pokegear application, a dossier that kept track of any news or leads that possibly pertained to Jason Alto. [sub][sup]
Z O L A
[/sup][/sub] They've been inseparable friends since Arceus knows when; Nao loves her to bits. In her eyes, Zola can do no wrong. She's like a goddess, maybe she's secretly Latias in disguise or... oops, she wasn't supposed to put her on a pedestal. But in all honesty, Nao admires her altruism and her presence is a constant source of comfort to her. Zola will always be the first person Nao runs to for advice. Nao's fondness for Zola extends to her Pokemon as well; she has spent many lazy afternoons just playing games with them. Fritz and Clinker get along with them really well. [sub][sup]
K I E L
[/sup][/sub] Like calls to like, and on the surface, Nao feels she and Ez are peas in a pod. She often chimes in his jokes and chatter and boisterous laughter, and there's no else who's as comfortable with physical displays of affections. When they're together, you have double the trouble and twice the fun. For all their similarities, Nao is aware that they have one main difference: his affections have a hard-stopping point. A line he's drawn that you're never supposed to cross. Out of curiosity, Nao likes to test how close she can get to it. [sub][sup]
D A N T E
[/sup][/sub] If Nao ever needs to laugh or just a general pick-me-up, she knows Dante is her go-to guy. Hand down, he will get her rolling on the floor with laughter. Nao started visiting and hanging out at his house a lot more frequently after his dad left, acting almost like a babysitter to Tai. Hearing what happened to little Tai had left her heartbroken for weeks; she can't even imagine how Dante and his family coped. [sub][sup]
C H O
[/sup][/sub] There's no one but Cho to the rescue when the everyday small-town life becomes painfully dull. Nao shares her spirit of adventure and admires her grand ambitions. When they were younger, Nao tailed after Cho every time she embarked on one of her adventures. [sub][sup]
K E N N Y
[/sup][/sub] Being only children, Nao dubbed Kenny her honorary brother when they were little. They played together often and she frequented their farm whenever she needed a break from thinking too hard about her latest tinkering project. At one point, she developed a device for him that was supposed to let him know if there was a Ghost Pokemon nearby, just so he was ready. It ended up beeping constantly in the wee hours of the night, so she scrapped the thing before it gave him a heart attack. [sub][sup]
K A T
[/sup][/sub] Nao knows Kat as a fellow Cho Adventure™ participant, and as someone she would like to get to know more. She admires her eye for design and has more than once commissioned her to create clothes for both Fritz and Clinker. [sub][sup]
F L Y N N
[/sup][/sub] An acquaintance from her childhood, Nao didn't get the chance to befriend Flynn before they moved away. Their family relocated while she was recovering from the hospital, and she hasn't heard much about Flynn until recently. [sub][sup]
B A R R Y
[/sup][/sub] When she was younger, Nao associated Barry with hazy summer memories and ice cream. After her accident, he has become symbolic of their family's pharmacy. For her phantom limb pains, Nao's mom trusts no one else but Apotheberry's medicines. [sub][sup]
S A M
[/sup][/sub] Nao will make friends with people or Pokemon alike in an instant. In her eighteen years in this world, this has been a constant. And in her eighteen years, there has only ever been one exception: Sam. She doesn't outright hate the guy -- he actually seems nice -- but Nao dislikes his raison d'être. With ulterior motives abound, Nao can't help but distrust him.
[/cell][/row]
