He often preaches that things can and do get better in life, even if he understands not everyone is as blessed as him. He always goes out of his way to help others who aren't fortunate, as he believes his massive luck was a gift he is obligated to use to make life better for others. His sizable allowance is often spent on gifts for others, even. He appreciates his status in life, but is very humble about it, understanding he hasn't particularly earned it. He has a bit of an inferiority complex as a result, eager to prove himself but also commonly downplaying any success of his as luck. In terms of hobbies, Edward is particularly into comic books and manga. Superman, Dragonball, and Naruto especially. That's partially why he's actually an excellent student despite his entirely average intelligence. He's very willing to train and study if it means access to real magical powers that he can use to do good. And to look cool and do cool things, but that's just a nice bonus.
Backstory
Edward was technically born in France, to two loving parents named Adeline and Damien Lachance. Right after Edward was born, however, Damien was offered a much higher paying position for his office job if he were to move to Britain. The two had been struggling and were worried about their child's well-being and took the offer, which turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Adeline was a painter, and her paintings finally took off once she began advertising them in Britain. All throughout Edward's life, the blessings of gods seemed to follow him. Winning games of chance was a near guarantee. He could call the flip of a coin 10 times in a row. At the age of 11, he advised his father on which numbers to pick for a lottery ticket, and their family was the only one to get the second tier prize that draw after a quadruple rollover. Despite how easy Edward's luck would have been to abuse, the Lachance family were good people who had spent their childhoods being taught that money wasn't everything, and they passed that lesson down to their son. They also understood his gift, and took steps to make sure it didn't go to his head. Despite efforts not to stand out, his grades were often great, and allowed him to apply for a unique transfer-- to study abroad in Japan. His parents allowed him to do so, but as he was interviewed, he was stupefied by the process, despite his repeated success. Soon he would find out why. He had stumbled into a school of magic and wonder that hid underneath it an entire new world of elves, beasts and spell casting. Having stumbled here, Edward is convinced all of his luck was fate guiding him here so he could make a positive impact on this world-- and the magical one right next door. However, there is a trick to it-- tapping the button actually sends out a small comb-- one has to hold the button to draw the real knife. He uses the comb to combat his hat hair whenever he's forced to take it off.
