For some reason, the sight of New Bark Town just beyond Cho's windowpane pulled at her heartstrings. This was where she had grown up-- it was her hometown, after all. She had spent most of her twenty-three years within its confines. No doubt it held some importance to her. She turned away from the sunny sight, her eyes shifting to rest on the packed bag that rested on her bed. A change of clothing had been neatly folded at the bottom of the satchel, and atop that rested some snacks, berries, her Pokegear, and a six-set of Pokeballs. It wouldn't be smart to overpack; the best course of action would be to travel lightly. Even if she didn't mind the weight, what made her think that she wouldn't get robbed at some point? Her thoughts were disrupted when a small figure fluttered through the narrow gap in the window. The bird Pokemon darted to her shoulder, where it perched and crooned tiredly. Cho smiled at it, lifting a finger to scratch behind its head. Kite's head tipped to the side, his croons turning into a purr of delight. "Everyone should be getting ready to go, huh?" she asked him, and the Taillow bobbed his head in reply. "Then let's get going." Cho's footsteps thumped against the wooden stairs as she descended to the first floor. Already she could smell bacon, eggs, and toast-- was her mom really cooking a heavy breakfast? She walked into their small kitchen to see her mother hard at work, her black hair tied up in a taut ponytail as she sweltered over the stove. "Cho! You're leaving already?" her mom lifted her head to glance at her. "I thought you'd eat breakfast first!" "Sorry mom, but Kite said everyone's almost done getting ready. I really don't want to be late!" Cho rushed over to her and gave her a half-hug before picking up a piece of bacon from one of the plates. "I promise I'll call when I can. I'll even send gifts." "Oh... well, goodbye, sweetheart. Be careful out there, you hear? It's dangerous for young people like you. And make sure to eat--" "Mom, it's Johto-- how dangerous can it be? There's cops like, everywhere!" Cho chirped with vigor as she pulled away. She popped the piece of bacon into her mouth, devouring it within a few moments before opening her mouth to bellow as she walked out the door. "Love you, mom! Talk to you later!" And with that, she was off. Cho sprinted through the small streets of New Bark Town, feeling the warm summer breeze on her skin as Kite flew beside her. Already, she could see the treeline that belonged to nothing other than Route 29-- and yet, she didn't see any of her friends. She slowed to a halt to catch her breath, leaning heavily on the signpost that stood near the exit. DANGER-- WILD POKEMON AHEAD, it read. Kite perched on the sign beside her, pecking away on its edge. A sigh left her. Where was everyone?
