[indent]Leo’s deepest fear, although he doesn’t show it, is losing the people that he loves. He’s incredibly protective by nature of those he cares about, but also this is a real human fear that has stuck with him throughout his whole life, even post memory loss.[/indent]

[indent]Leo Brooks wasn’t always a problem child. He began life with a loving mother and younger sister, and although they didn’t have much money, they made the best of a bad situation. Yes, they may have all shared one bed in a small studio apartment, and yes, they may have not had heat and electricity some months, but they were happy because they had each other. However, relatives believed this living situation was not well suited for two young children, and they reported his mother to the authorities. Forcibly removed from his home at the age of 5, Leo and his sister were placed in the foster care system and subsequently separated. For years, he prayed that his mom would come and find him; come and rescue him. But, she never did. The trauma that Leo experienced from being taken away, as well as being split up from the only other family he had, was immense and would influence the trajectory of his life. 

The young boy became reckless, rebellious, and inconsolable, bouncing from foster home to foster home as a result of his behavior. In some homes, Leo would resort to violent actions like throwing glass objects, slamming doors until they came off their hinges, and physically pushing or punching his foster siblings and parents. In other homes, he would break rules and attempt to sneak out or run away. He thought the more homes he would be rejected from, the more likely they would be to return him to his mother. But unfortunately, the opposite was the case. The vicious cycle continued and by the age of 17, Leo had been through 10 foster homes. Each one cited him as a nuisance, a rebel, and a difficult child who could not be reached. According to them, he was impossible. 

A mere 4 days before he turned 18, hours away from being released from the foster care system as a legal adult, Leo’s final set of foster parents and case worker were approached by Dr. Hagerty and Dr. Wayman. They had heard of the misguided and problematic child and offered up a solution for all parties involved. The doctors explained the psychological and health consequences of frequent changes in placement for foster care children, which included negative developmental trajectories and poor adult outcomes, and recommended that Leo be sent to a special program in order to mitigate those risks. Thinking that this was the best course of action for him, his foster parents and case worker obliged, stripping Leo of his freedom just as he was about to grasp it. Project Untamed wasn't his "saving grace"... it was his doom.

That was until Daphne and Henry Brooks came into the picture. She was a successful business woman who worked in start ups and he was a renowned plastic surgeon in the Bay Area. With all of the time they had spent on their careers, which was most of their lives, they hadn't nary considered conceiving a family of their own. It wasn't until they heard through their social circle about Leo that they knew that he was somehow meant to be with them. A product of the foster care system herself, Daphne believed that this boy deserved to be given a second chance, however difficult it would be to reign in his anger and frustration with the world, and be provided with the stability of a permanent home. And so, calls were made, the licensing process was severely expedited, and a month and a half after hearing about him for the first time, Leo James arrived at the Brooks' doorstep. 

They'd be lying if they said the first six months weren't challenging. Leo was everything they had heard about from his previous placements and were warned about by the social workers, and somehow [I]more[/I]. Disaster struck wherever he walked and it was exhausting trying to calm the fire that was continuous in his heart. But Daphne knew that underneath all of the rage and anger, there was a terrified boy who needed someone- [I]anyone[/I]- to answer his clear calls for help, and thus she persisted. Eventually, after months of trying to reach him, something shifted. To this day, Daphne and Henry still don't know what exactly it was that caused the switch to flip, but Leo realized that the Brooks' weren't giving up on him and so he made the conscious decision to not give up on them. Trust was built from there, and most of the remaining flames were extinguished with time. 

Of course, not everything was quelled once the official adoption went through and Leo James became Leo Brooks at age 12, but he had certainly grown out of his acting out phase and instead channeled his remaining emotions into his cocky and carefree demeanor. At that point, his parents (officially, after they signed the papers) could care less- as long as he didn't resort to physical violence like in previous years, he could act however he wanted. To them, it was just growing pains, something that teenagers went through. What mattered most was the boy finally felt at home somewhere, after being abandoned at a young age and having doors open and shut on him. Daphne and Henry did everything they could to help their son- enrolling him in the best schools possible and allowing him to channel his remaining aggression into after school sports like Football. If it weren't for them, it's doubtful that Leo would have ever left the system, and would have possibly resorted to dangerous and despicable means to survive. 

To best set him up for success, the Brooks' enrolled Leo at Marble Heights Academy, and he has attended there since his Freshman year. He was roped in with the right crowd from day 1, which resulted in his popularity. Of course, his good looks and natural talent on the field helped, but something about the way he carried himself said it all without saying anything. He's excited for his senior year and looking forward to hopefully playing Football professionally after college.
