[indent]Before, life was good. The Monet's were a wealthy couple, Alexander working as a scientist in the private sector, and his wife Claudia serving on the board of a well known wildlife charity. Alexander was notable for his studies in animal biology, particularly in regards to neurochemistry. When the couple welcomed their first and only daughter, their friends expected her to grow up to be just as successful as her parents. Erica was spoiled from the beginning, with any luxury the Monets could afford. Unfortunately, the Monets thought that good parenting meant providing your child with everything they hadn't had. This didn't make up for their absence in Erica's life however, an absence that only became more prominent as she grew up.

Erica's childhood and adolescence was relatively easy, despite her loneliness at home. She lived a privileged life, attending a private school in New York, and spending the summers in exotic locales. That is, until the money ran out. Alexander Monet had long been known for his provocative ideas, but when an experiment of his went awry and led to the death of a human subject, he lost what credibility he had left within the community. The company where he'd been employed fired him, and the Monet's were left in a precarious position. It was then that the doctors arrived. Dr. Wayman offered the Monet's an unfathomable amount of money, in exchange for two things. Their daughter's participation in their experiment, and Alexander's research. Erica agreed, without questions. Her relationship with her parents had been strained by distance, but she saw this as a chance to prove her worth to them, prove that she could live up to everyone's expectations. Dr. Wayman had insisted that it was safe, that it was just a social experiment. She should've done her research.[/indent]
