Maarcuu is dressed like a bounty hunter right now. Maybe your guy was nearly killed by him, so he attacks Maarcuu out of anger (poor Maarcuu isn't just non-important right now, but he's also cannon fodder xD) but they learn they're not enemies.

Also, Maarcuu may just hide the fact he has a personal star fighter because of how he acquired it (Zuzen would snap the Animatians neck I'm pretty sure)
