[PLAYER CHARACTER SHEET] Appearance: Name: Ultana Whelen Age: 17 Race: Earth - Human Nationality: Igneus Caute Personality: Rude, Violent, Impulsive, Stubborn and Hot-headed are just some of the terms most people might describe her. Some would even go as far as to call her a rabid dog with the way she loses her cool and is quick to resort to violence. She’s a girl that lives and does things her way, regardless of whether it’s right or wrong. Backstory: Born to a family of miners, Ultana always was found in the caverns, regardless if she was allowed to or not, security watching the entrances be damned. Ultana practically lived in the caves, to the point she knew them as well as any adult would. Ever since her childhood, she was a reckless tomboy that was always quick to resort to violence in any dispute. More often than not, this would often get her into trouble with kids her age and adults alike. Like most who were born into a mining family, she was raised and trained in the Arts Of Smoldering Earth, a Spell Knight style that was born and perfected through a series of hostile conflicts that followed the demise of the great magician. While trained in it, not many are able to master or advance far with it due to the difficulty of the skills and forms, with many being quick to abandon it. Because of this, it was merely seen as basic training with many preferring to simply resort to old fashioned brawling. Granted, growing up, Ultana was definitely one of the many who thought it was pointless. After frequent struggles trying to learn it, she easily grew frustrated with it and began seeing it as a waste of time like most kids who give up when things don’t go their way. It wouldn’t be until a few years later, when she was around 13-14 until she began taking it seriously again. The event that inspired it all, began like any other. Each group of miners was each designated plots or areas in the mine to dig, with space given between them as to not interfere with the others. The group she was usually in was with her father, grandfather and a few of their drinking buddies. The Mining business was generally hit or miss in regards to finds, but lately her grandfather was growing increasingly dissatisfied with the areas they were able to mine. It was generally first come, first serve but lately they’d find certain areas of the mine sealed off with armed guards, all with the same emblem on their shoulders, and always found themselves chased and pushed away from areas while other shady people took over their dig sites. It’s something that started weeks prior when her father and grandfather started finding strange artifacts in their sites. Not getting any leads as to what exactly they were, but eventually people started getting it in their heads that the items might’ve belonged to the great magician who once called this area his home. Just the slightest touch of suspicion was enough for a certain scholar to send his goons to the mine and block everything off. Having enough, her grandfather and father snuck into the mine was security was at its weakest, to go back to the site. Naturally, a certain girl was supposed to be in her bed, saw them and followed into the mine. While they weren’t too pleased when they found her out, they eventually allowed her to tag along. After sneaking past some of the armed men, they managed to successfully infiltrate the dig site. After a few hours of digging, her grandfather finally found something. It was a bulky and really tattered old book. When he opened the book, the text was all over the place and wasn’t able to understand a single word or letter in it but was excited about it all the same. However, not long after returning to the surface with it and began investigating it, the group tracked them down in an isolated location. Surrounding them, demanding they hand over the book, claiming it belonged to them. When her grandfather, without hesitation, refused, the armed men decided to take it by force. Gravely underestimating him, the group charged at him all at once before a good deal of them fell to a massive tremor caused by her grandfather. Watching him taking them out in such a devastating fashion made her totally forget the situation they were in and looked on with excitement. Here her grandfather was, using a spell knight style she wrote off as a joke and totally impossible to master, with ease taking out a bunch of trained and armed guards. It was incredible, that was until they eventually overwhelmed him with their numbers and eventually wore him down. Ultana quickly went from happy and excited to as if her soul was ripped out from her body. They didn’t just stop at taking the book from him, taking advantage of his weak state, they wasted no time in killing him. Whatever that book was, it was something those shady bastards, and whoever employed them, were willing to kill for it. Naturally, the men didn’t fail to notice her presence. As they moved towards her, her father, who was helping her grandfather fight the men off, got in front of them and tried to buy some time for her to run. While she did end up running away, she was eventually caught. However, fate would have it, a knight from another land intervened and the rest was history. Given her state at the time, losing her father and grandfather, she couldn’t recall his name or what he looked like but would stick in her mind was the fact he was sent from the capital on an unrelated matter. She did vaguely remember the emblem on the shady bastards uniforms. It was a depiction of some sort of winged beast, an emblem she never saw personally but familiar all the same. After spending the time afterwords to take Smoldering Earth seriously, she decided to take her attention to Silvergate Academy. She figured there'd be a better chance at finding out who those people were if she went to Silvergate as opposed to the knight academy, where all sorts of people could be found there.
