1) Magic is common enough that most villages have a few magic capable people. In terms of magic battalions etc there hasn't really been a call for them. Bows and muskets have been the preferred ranged attacks, mostly because training magic is alot more intensive and difficult.

2) Yeah, all characters are part of the officers branch.

3) All characters are in the first year, regardless of age.
