Most of their neighbors refer to them as the Russian immigrant and the redneck, anyhow. Millie Jeanโ€™s mother is far from a redneck, however, she was raised by a rather rich family in Texas that made their money off of oil and destroying the environment. She even attended Meadows University for three semesters, before dropping out and running off with Avel after meeting him at a bar. It was the talk of the small town she came from, and her parents eventually cut her off because of the utter embarrassment. Eventually, Selma and Avel found themselves settled down in a little apartment in Wisconsin and had Millie Jean. Selma wanted to give her daughter a proper Dixie name, but left the middle name to Avel. She was born Millie Jean Ulyana Zadorozhny. When it came time to write her name on the birth certificate, the name almost didnโ€™t fit the line it was so long. Her parents raised her so she had connection to both of her roots: she learned Ukrainian as she learned English and her mother taught her good Southern hospitality. For the most part, she lived quietly with a few friends and nothing really affected her that much. When she was in high school, though, she ended befriending the wrong person and ended up with an addiction to prescription drugs. She entered rehab at the age of sixteen and has been sober since. Her high school years werenโ€™t always bad. Millie Jean discovered her love for swimming after trying out for the swim team on a whim. Eventually, her swimming prowess would be what got her the scholarship to Meadows University in the first place. That, and her outstanding grades. At Meadows University, Millie Jean studied rather quietly her first five semesters, focusing on academics and the swim team. It was very important for her to keep up her scholarship as her parents couldnโ€™t afford the school otherwise. She majored in Comparative Literature due to her Ukrainian background, wanting to study the differences of literature across the globe. Millie Jean only hopes the second half of her third year goes as quiet as the last five.
