He's often been described as being prone to ruminations and brooding, dedicated to his craft, and, of course, he's always had a signficant dearth of funds preventing him from fully realizing his dreams. Part of that perception stems from his appearance; dressed in plain clothes of solid colors, usually dark tones, all of them too loose or too tight, with a carefully trimmed face and messily tangled hair. Pretty, in his own way, and boyishly charming in his mannerisms. When he interacts with someone he does it with an attentive focus that can as intimidating as it is flattering, and his voice has a steady and clear quality to it that is nice, but high and sharp enough to seem mismatched to his more staid demeanor. Constantly faced with new and unfortunate twists of fate, Locke is somewhat jaded to the misfortune of others, and reacts to his own woes with a mix of feigned nonchalance and resigned challenge. He's certainly not unused to fighting for every advantage or roughed-up speck of luck. The truth of his emotions can be hard to pin down, too often he straddles a line between avoidance and acceptance, a balancing act that works well for him... most of the time. Sometimes his little balancing act only lets his troubles stew into a cloud of tension that is difficult to work through. As a general rule Locke is almost always presenting as relaxed and calm, lazy even, though in the privacy of his own head he's more mentally focused, quick-witted and easily distracted by errant thoughts. The exception to the rule is found when making his art; the composed mask of a man unfazed falls away, along with the rest of the world, leaving him bare and true to his feelings, allowing him a chance to really connect with his own emotions in a way that is as terrifying as it is liberating. [SUB]D A Y S - G O N E[/SUB]
A little orphan boy from a little orphan gang, for the most part anyway. His parents died when he was thirteen, and he was never told why, just shuffled along by an enforcer to an orphanage, along with his younger half-brother Keith. The matron noted their names down and promptly forgot about them, allowing them to be recruited into a proto-gang of thieving children and disappear onto the streets of New Brazil for hours at a time. Hours became days, days weeks, and then... well, then came Hook. He was an older boy, new to the orphanage, though definitely from the same streets Locke came from, instead he was a rougher sort, but they were instant friends. Hook, first name Gage, was more ambitious and street smart than any of the other kids, and he took over their little clan of criminal urchins and taught them all the tips and tricks to really suck them into a life of crime. They called themselves the Battery, puns and japes about baseball and all the related gimmicks became their lingo. They were still little more than orphan ruffians, but with a swish name and a cooler, older kid egging them on? Locke and his brother quickly got themselves into more trouble than they could handle and only the intervention of one Jemma Reyes saved them from a disastrous end. Their "gang" was hired hired as lookouts and spies for an information dancer- no wait, a pole broker- nope still not right - a pole dancing information broker! Or something like that, Locke never did learn her official job description besides "looking pretty" and "recruiting gangsters at gun point" which was all he needed to know in all fairness. The Battery became subsumed by the Glitters, semi-adopted and semi-employed as "adorable little banditos". At first Locke was more of an errand boy than anything else, until he began to truly get good at art and put his skills at design to work for the Glitters, improving their interior decor, advertisements, and other small things. Then, when that didn't pay enough and the Glitters decided he was age-appropriate they paid for his transition and in return he became a more direct entertainer, if a bit more low-key than the usual guises of Glitters' personnel. He had fangs added eventually, and then played up the "vampire" look for a bit with the red eyes and pale skin, occasionally mixing up hair colors, but never anything as extreme as the more extensive augments others preferred. He kept up with the other Battery kids, some of which had followed him to become more direct members of the Glitters and others, like Hook and his brother, that stayed more on the mercenary side of things. Sometimes he even joined in, when he was needed, or just when he wanted to, landing him more than a few offensive skill sets that proved useful way more than they ought to. Things fell flat soon after his twenty-third birthday when Keith was killed. The details were sketchy and Hook was far too cagey for Locke's liking, ending their on-again off-again relationship on a particularly sour note. Keith had never liked Locke's sparse collection of augments, nor that Locke had practically given up on his art to be a piece of meat on display, so he stripped all of them out, returning to his natural coloration, reversed the fangs, and finally parted ways with the Glitters. Officially at least, he didn't leave his friends behind and occasionally took on small jobs for them, but for the most part he was independent for the first time in... ever. Being independent sucked. No money, no protection, no benefits - and he refused to work with that bastard Hook, a man he'd known and trusted for half his life but couldn't manage to spit out any details about why his only brother was dead. So he did literally anything else. [SUB]M E M O R I E S[/SUB]

Ann and Jaime Turner: {Parents/Deceased} The Turners were more well to do than most, receiving a hefty paycheck for their work - not that Locke knows what that work was, just that his quality of life dropped drastically after they died. He still doesn't know the details, by the time he was old enough to demand more information he was too preoccupied to pursue it, and now whatever it was that led to their end has been thoroughly covered up.

Keith Turner: {Half-Brother/Deceased} In a startling similarity that isn't lost on Locke, his brother Keith has also gone missing - presumed dead, if Hook is to be believed at least. Keith was the more serious and pragmatic of the two, and always encouraged his older brother to pursue the things that made him happy rather than settle for the hand fate had dealt him. Locke has taken that wish to heart since his death, better late than never right? So he hoped, anyway.

Gage Hook: {Former Lover} Long-time childhood friend and fellow orphan, Hook was the one to raise him and the rest of the Battery from no-name street urchins to the Glitters' pets - and while that might not seem like an impressive niche it was one that kept them reasonably well-fed and protected. Now he runs what's left of the Battery as a militant group of infiltrators and mercenaries exclusive to the Glitters. Hook and Locke held a fractal relationship for years, never exclusive or serious, but always putting each other first. The death of Keith was followed by Hook's lackluster attempts to claim ignorance led to the dissolution of whatever confusing commitments the two had for each other.

Jemma Reyes: {Former Boss} Jemma is low on the Glitters' totem pole, and given she hired the Battery that shows how much lower they are in comparison. She was a kind woman, but professional. Jemma protected her girls, and then also her boys when she hired the orphans, but she was never afraid to use them either. It meant something to Locke to be useful, to have his passions and skills taken seriously, but as time wore on he felt more and more like a tool than a person. He parted from Jemma and the Glitters on good terms, and sometimes still does work for them, but the times where Jemma called the shots in his life are over now.

Slash: {Acquaintance} A common customer of the Glitters, Locke knows Slash only peripherally. The staff gossips and speculates, as with all the regulars, occasionally pooling their observations out of boredom and coming up with wild theories about his past. That said, the only thing Locke knows for sure is the man has a substance addiction or two.
[SUB]P O W E R S[/SUB]
Photokinesis: Locke has the ability to manipulate light by creating photosensitive projections. Techniques:

Illusions: In effect Locke's projections are very tenuous force-fields that interact with light in unique ways and can be used to create false images around him. The illusions are fragile, but very convincing and require little effort to be detailed and life-like, enough to easily fool eyes and cameras alike. They can be created anywhere within his range of perception, be any size or shape, and can persist indefinitely unless disrupted or dismissed. More flexible projections can be "attached" to a target, which conform to it's shape and are harder to disrupt.

Limits: Projections can be disrupted by any small force, resisting breezes but falling apart at a gust of wind or even a gentle shove. Animated illusions have a faint heat-signature and require line-of-sight to maintain, becoming still once outside Locke's perception. Attached illusions are disrupted over a short amount of time, breaking quicker on more active targets. Projections have no sound, taste, or smell, and only the faintest tickling sensation if touched.

Illumination: At short range Locke can create less complex projections that simply radiate light, from a dim firefly's glow to rays bright enough to sear flesh and scorch metals. This technique allows him to temporarily blind or painfully burn enemies.

Limits: Projections that create light instead of simply interacting with it are much weaker, and while they can get hot enough that disrupting them is dangerous they are short-lived and immediately broken on direct contact with solid objects. Locke's range for light-bearing projections is severely limited, working only barely outside of arm's reach, and cannot be attached to a target.

Invisibility: The last kind of projection doesn't manipulate or create light, but becomes immune to it. Invisibility projections are totally intangible, which means they cannot be disrupted by material objects. They are also three-dimensional, which creates a space inside them that cannot be seen from outside the projection. Invisibility can also be attached to a target, unlike illuminations.

Limits: The durability of invisibility projections is determined by light-level, greater exposure to bright light causing the projection to become disrupted faster. There is a hard limit on their size, about the size of a football goal structure, and the previous limitation on attached projections stacks - an attached invisibility projection would quickly disrupt from the effects of a bright environment and an active target.

Weaknesses: Locke can only create or manipulate his projections if they're within eyesight, meaning he cannot send his power through technology such as cameras. While they do persist after he breaks line-of-sight with his projections, they will become blurry and inanimate. His powers are easily disrupted, broken by as little force as shooing away a fly, causing the projections and their effects to instantly disperse. Focus is required to maintain each projection, and overlapping projections tend to disrupt each other.
