Name: Karluk (after the Karluk river near where he was born) Gender: Male Age: 14 (a few years after being full grown) Species: Kodiak Brown Bear Appearance: Personality: Although he has a rough outer surface, he is actually quite kind. His size and scars tend to scare others away from him, which he uses as a shield against loss. If he doesn't have any friends, then he can't feel the pain of losing them. He despises humans, and will kill them without second though. He believes that nature will find a way, and that the human problem will solve itself if they sit tight and weather the problems. History: Born on Kodiak Island with two younger siblings, he grew up in the Karluk river valley, which his mother named him after. However, shortly before he was old enough to go off on his own, his family was ripped apart by humans. Poachers killed his mother and two younger brothers, leaving him all alone in the wild. For a year, he survived on his own, gaining many scars from fights with other bears. He learned that only through hardship can one survive, and this is one of his main principles. After a year passed, he was taken in by the local humans, and sent to a zoo near Washington. He grew to resent the humans even more for imprisoning him. After a few years of confinement, he escaped after mauling a zookeeper who was opening his gate. From there he made his way back up to Alaska. By the time he returned to near his homeland, he was already a full grown adult at around nine. He was also fairly large for his species, even larger than many Polar bears (the largest species of bear). Over the next few years he spent his time trying to escape human activity, and started to notice the world was becoming more inhospitable. Markings: Many scars (although not very visible thanks to his thick coat) Family: Two younger brothers (both dead)
