Personal Style: You can take the girl out of the New York socialite scene, but you can't take the New York socialite scene out of the girl, a fact that's all too evident once you look in Leandra's clothing trunk. Despite living in a militaristic camp for demigods, she retains the fashion sense of a wealthy teen looking to impress her peers. She tends to prefer designer jeans and leggings over skirts or dresses, though in formal situations, she won't hesitate to bust out expensive and extravagant ballgowns. As far as tops go, she tends to wear tank tops and t-shirts under cardigans. Another interesting thing to note is that she tends to wear colors that evoke certain emotions that are helpful for whatever mission she's on. She tends to wear pink and white more than anything, to suggest general friendliness and purity. But if she has a specific goal in mind, she might change her clothes to fit it; for example, if she needs someone to trust her, she might add some blue to her outfit, or if she wants to evoke passion and desire from someone (without using her abilities) she might wear red. When combat is expected, she wears leather armor, specifically meant to allow her mobility. Raised and mentored majorly by her mother, a woman who charmed her way into a marriage with one of the wealthiest investors in New York, she knows how to manipulate people into giving her what she wants. To say she's amoral wouldn't quite be accurate; there are lines she's not willing to cross. But more often than not, Leandra believes that the end justifies the means. She's often willing to do things that others might consider dishonorable if she thinks that it will result in the best outcome for her and her people. While Leandra does value personal power and influence, it's not her only desire, or even her primary desire. More than anything, she wants to do what's best for her Cohort and her camp. Even in cases where her fellow campers might be among those she manipulates, when push comes to shove, she'll protect them with the fierceness of a mama lion. Her time as the daughter of minor god in one of the lower cohorts has erased the sense of entitlement brought about from her background, and has left her with a soft spot for the underprivileged underdogs. Leandra also loves a challenge, ready and willing to take on tasks that might be deemed difficult by many. Another thing of note is that Leandra is wildly organized, having a place for everything and preferring to keep everything in its place. It makes her feel in control. Starting from humble beginnings as a mostly uneducated young woman living in a trailer, the only two things she had going for her were her looks and her cunning. And, as it turned out, that was all she needed. After much planning, the woman wormed her way into the New York socialite scene, taking the opportunity to seduce one of the most prolific investors in New York. Before she knew it, they were married, and she found herself in partial control of more money than she'd ever had. The two never thought they'd be able to have kids, as Mr. Lovelace's age had rendered him mostly infertile. So when Leandra's mother became pregnant with her, it was a 'miracle'. It's funny how many words for adultery there are. See, in using her skills in seduction to slither into the wallet of a rich old man, Leandra's mother caught the attention of Cupid. But it wasn't until the woman was married that the God of Passionate Love approached her. It was a late night, and the inebriated Mrs. Lovelace was home alone. She heard a knock from the door, and opened it to find the most handsome man she'd ever seen, with long raven hair and white wings decorating his back. The next morning, Mrs. Lovelace wasn't even entirely sure it had really happened. The memory of that night faded into an odd mystery rarely thought about as the years went on. When Leandra was born, she became her mother's number one priority. Her legacy. She taught Leandra all she knew about people, manipulation, and using her femininity to her advantage, which was quite a lot. Leandra grew up with the cleverness of her mother and the education suited to her economic class, a powerful combination that allowed her control over most every situation she found herself in. But that all changed when she was twelve. One of her father's investments had paid off tremendously, and so he and his colleagues were having a house party to celebrate. He volunteered his daughter to sing, as she'd always had a lovely voice. But when she began her song, her audience went into a dazed stupor. Her mother, who was out of the room fixing herself a martini, entered after the song was done, only to find her confused daughter standing among a crowd of seemingly hypnotized rich people. Mrs. Lovelace's mind went reeling back to her night with the magical man, the night she hadn't been sure had happened, but in that moment she knew that it had, she knew that it had. And that this was her punishment. The effects eventually wore off, and Mrs. Lovelace sent her daughter across the country, to Harvard-Westlake School in California. She knew that Leandra's abilities would bring with them trouble, trouble that would affect the both of them. Mrs. Lovelace isn't the only one that took notice of Leandra's abilities. Once she got to California, it didn't take long for Leandra to learn about her own abilities, and once she did, to say she thrived would be an understatement. There are few things as intimidating as a morally loose preteen with the ability to control minds. While she kept her more obvious ability, the Siren's Song, under wraps, she used her power to manipulate desires to become the queen of Harvard-Westlake's student body. She wasn't exactly subtle about it; she didn't feel any need to be. That was a mistake. One night, on her way back to her dorm after sneaking out with some friends, she was attacked by something. It was dark, and she couldn't tell exactly what, but it wasn't human, and it wasn't like any animal she'd ever seen. She ran, but it chased her. Just as it was about to catch her, she collided into the stomach of a rather plump bearded man who was dressed in rags and smelled of bourbon. Fire sprung from his fingers, and he managed to defeat the creature in an anticlimactic battle of drunken stumbles. After the thing was defeated, he gave the slurred SparkNotes version of gods, goddesses and demigods speech, before offering to take her to the Wolf House and supply her with a letter of recommendation. She didn't need much convincing, and quickly accepted. How Long Have They Been At Camp Jupiter: Like the other Roman demigods, Leandra was educated at the Wolf House by Lupa. Once she was deemed worthy, she made her way to Camp Jupiter. But when she presented the Praetors with her letter of recommendation, they laughed. Not only was it written in poor penmanship containing numerous spelling errors, but apparently her supposed 'savior' was a disgraced ex-legionnaire deserter who abandoned the Twelfth Legion after a scarring mission. The unimpressive letter was barely enough to get into Cohort 4. Suddenly, Leandra, who'd always been at the top of the social food chain, was at the bottom. "The privileged Probatio stationed in the 4th Cohort" wasn't exactly a threatening title. Even after being claimed, her status as the daughter of a minor god rendered her lesser by the standards of many. But she didn't leave. She was never one to back down from a challenge. There was a time where she wasn't sure how she'd find the power to start climbing up the rungs of the social ladder, but she eventually found it: paperwork. The lifeblood of any orderly institution, and something that no one else seemed inclined to step up and deal with once the then record keeper was gone. When Leandra tried her hand at it, she fell in love. Documents were like riddles with countless solutions, they were like people in paper form, each unique, complicated, and fascinating to learn about. And once she had her job, an important one rather than cleaning the trenches, one no one else could do, getting respect wasn't hard. As the months flew by, she slowly began to make a name for herself among her peers. At first it was simply for her aptitude with a pen, then her aptitude with a bow, and finally, her aptitude with people. She became quite popular with most of the camp, with Cohort 4 more than anyone. Even before she became a Centurion, she was viewed as a leader by many of them. The eventual title and position only cemented it. Now, despite being a member of the 4th Cohort, she does her best to put herself at the center of many of the Camp's major decisions and meetings. She believes that she should've been rewarded the position of Praetor, and the fact that she wasn't is because of her low status as a member of the 4th Cohort and the decedent of a minor god.
