Personal Style: You can take the girl out of the New York socialite scene, but you can't take the New York socialite scene out of the girl, a fact that's all too evident once you look in Leandra's clothing trunk. Despite living in a militaristic camp for demigods, she retains the fashion sense of a wealthy teen looking to impress her peers. She tends to prefer designer jeans and leggings over skirts or dresses, though in formal situations, she won't hesitate to bust out expensive and extravagant ballgowns. As far as tops go, she tends to wear tank tops and t-shirts under cardigans. Another interesting thing to note is that she tends to wear colors that evoke certain emotions that are helpful for whatever mission she's on. She tends to wear pink and white more than anything, to suggest general friendliness and purity. But if she has a specific goal in mind, she might change her clothes to fit it; for example, if she needs someone to trust her, she might add some blue to her outfit, or if she wants to evoke passion and desire from someone (without using her abilities) she might wear red. When combat is expected, she wears leather armor, specifically meant to allow her mobility. Raised and mentored majorly by her mother, a woman who charmed her way into a marriage with one of the wealthiest investors in New York, she knows how to manipulate people into giving her what she wants. To say she's amoral wouldn't quite be accurate; there are lines she's not willing to cross. But more often than not, Leandra believes that the end justifies the means. She's often willing to do things that others might consider dishonorable if she thinks that it will result in the best outcome for her and her people. While Leandra does value personal power and influence, it's not her only desire, or even her primary desire. More than anything, she wants to do what's best for her Cohort and her camp. Even in cases where her fellow campers might be among those she manipulates, when push comes to shove, she'll protect them with the fierceness of a mama lion. Her time as the daughter of minor god in one of the lower cohorts has erased the sense of entitlement brought about from her background, and has left her with a soft spot for the underprivileged underdogs. Leandra also loves a challenge, ready and willing to take on tasks that might be deemed difficult by many. Another thing of note is that Leandra is wildly organized, having a place for everything and preferring to keep everything in its place. It makes her feel in control. Starting from humble beginnings as a mostly uneducated young woman living in a trailer, the only two things she had going for her were her looks and her cunning. And, as it turned out, that was all she needed. After much planning, the woman wormed her way into the New York socialite scene, taking the opportunity to seduce one of the most prolific investors in New York. Before she knew it, they were married, and she found herself in partial control of more money than she'd ever had. The two never thought they'd be able to have kids, as Mr. Lovelace's age had rendered him mostly infertile. So when Leandra's mother became pregnant with her, it was a 'miracle'. It's funny how many words for adultery there are. See, in using her skills in seduction to slither into the wallet of a rich old man, Leandra's mother caught the attention of Cupid. But it wasn't until the woman was married that the God of Passionate Love approached her. It was a late night, and the inebriated Mrs. Lovelace was home alone. She heard a knock from the door, and opened it to find the most handsome man she'd ever seen, with long raven hair and white wings decorating his back. The next morning, Mrs. Lovelace wasn't even entirely sure it had really happened. The memory of that night faded into an odd mystery rarely thought about as the years went on. When Leandra was born, she became her mother's number one priority. Her legacy. She taught Leandra all she knew about people, manipulation, and using her femininity to her advantage, which was quite a lot. Leandra grew up with the cleverness of her mother and the education suited to her economic class, a powerful combination that allowed her control over most every situation she found herself in. But that all changed when she was twelve. One of her father's investments had paid off tremendously, and so he and his colleagues were having a house party to celebrate. He volunteered his daughter to sing, as she'd always had a lovely voice. But when she began her song, her audience went into a dazed stupor. Her mother, who was out of the room fixing herself a martini, entered after the song was done, only to find her confused daughter standing among a crowd of seemingly hypnotized rich people. Mrs. Lovelace's mind went reeling back to her night with the magical man, the night she hadn't been sure had happened, but in that moment she knew that it had, she knew that it had. And that this was her punishment. The effects eventually wore off, and Mrs. Lovelace sent her daughter across the country, to Harvard-Westlake School in California. She knew that Leandra's abilities would bring with them trouble, trouble that would affect the both of them. Mrs. Lovelace isn't the only one that took notice of Leandra's abilities. Once she got to California, it didn't take long for Leandra to learn about her own abilities, and once she did, to say she thrived would be an understatement. There are few things as intimidating as a morally loose preteen with the ability to control minds. While she kept her more obvious ability, the Siren's Song, under wraps, she used her power to manipulate desires to become the queen of Harvard-Westlake's student body. She wasn't exactly subtle about it; she didn't feel any need to be. That was a mistake. One night, on her way back to her dorm after sneaking out with some friends, she was attacked by something. It was dark, and she couldn't tell exactly what, but it wasn't human, and it wasn't like any animal she'd ever seen. She ran, but it chased her. Just as it was about to catch her, she collided into the stomach of a rather plump bearded man who was dressed in rags and smelled of bourbon. Fire sprung from his fingers, and he managed to defeat the creature in an anticlimactic battle of drunken stumbles. After the thing was defeated, he gave the slurred SparkNotes version of gods, goddesses and demigods speech, before offering to take her to the Wolf House and supply her with a letter of recommendation. She didn't need much convincing, and quickly accepted. How Long Have They Been At Camp Jupiter: Like the other Roman demigods, Leandra was educated at the Wolf House by Lupa. Once she was deemed worthy, she made her way to Camp Jupiter. But when she presented the Praetors with her letter of recommendation, they laughed. Not only was it written in poor penmanship containing numerous spelling errors, but apparently her supposed 'savior' was a disgraced ex-legionnaire deserter who abandoned the Twelfth Legion after a scarring mission. The unimpressive letter was barely enough to get into Cohort 4. Suddenly, Leandra, who'd always been at the top of the social food chain, was at the bottom. "The privileged Probatio stationed in the 4th Cohort" wasn't exactly a threatening title. Even after being claimed, her status as the daughter of a minor god rendered her lesser by the standards of many. But she didn't leave. She was never one to back down from a challenge. There was a time where she wasn't sure how she'd find the power to start climbing up the rungs of the social ladder, but she eventually found it: paperwork. The lifeblood of any orderly institution, and something that no one else seemed inclined to step up and deal with once the then record keeper was gone. When Leandra tried her hand at it, she fell in love. Documents were like riddles with countless solutions, they were like people in paper form, each unique, complicated, and fascinating to learn about. And once she had her job, an important one rather than cleaning the trenches, one no one else could do, getting respect wasn't hard. As the months flew by, she slowly began to make a name for herself among her peers. At first it was simply for her aptitude with a pen, then her aptitude with a bow, and finally, her aptitude with people. She became quite popular with most of the camp, with Cohort 4 more than anyone. Even before she became a Centurion, she was viewed as a leader by many of them. The eventual title and position only cemented it. Now, despite being a member of the 4th Cohort, she does her best to put herself at the center of many of the Camp's major decisions and meetings. She believes that she should've been rewarded the position of Praetor, and the fact that she wasn't is because of her low status as a member of the 4th Cohort and the decedent of a minor god. Every ounce of power she has, she has because the right people took pity on her. While she might've once felt sorry for Nancy, being trapped in the Lotus Hotel and Casino all those years, she believes that Nancy's taken advantage of people's compassion. Leandra believes that in accepting all the help she's had, Nancy is letting her experience at the Lotus Hotel continue to control her life. She's also envious of Nancy's position as praetor, believing that she herself is more deserving of the position. Due to her Book of Secrets, Leandra is one of the few people who know about the sexual assault Nancy dealt with in the Lotus Hotel, but she keeps it to herself, knowing it would be wrong to use it against her.
💀 Madalyne Crane 💀 "At least she's had to work for what she has." Leandra doesn't like Madalyne by any stretch, but she respects her more than her co-praetor. She knows that Madalyne, being placed into the 3rd Cohort, had to work her way to the top. She also gets points for being a the child of a minor god, with Leandra feeling a bit of a kinship with the girl who also climbed the social ladder despite the circumstances of her birth, though being a legacy of Ares lessens it. As is the case with Nancy, Leandra believes that she'd make a better Praeter than Maddie, and holds some resentment for her. She also doesn't approve of Madalyne's choice in best friend, a fact that causes Leandra to dislike her all the more.
🌓 Niah Bautista 🌓 "The Oath Binder? She seems like a nice enough girl." Leandra doesn't feel any strong feelings towards Niah. The girl seems to be a bit cold towards Leandra, likely, she suspects, because of her friendship with the praetors. While the girl is more privileged than many, Leandra has noticed that she hasn't tried to use her privilege to gain power, and thus, does not despise her like she may have otherwise. Their jobs have them working in close vicinity of one another, and the two seem to have a very professional relationship.
💛 Marco Depaulo 💛 "Uncle Marco is what one would call a 'cool uncle'." Leandra and Marco get along fairly well, given their similar interests and backgrounds. Due to their blood relation, with him being the son of her father's mother, she's taken to playfully referring to him as 'Uncle Marco'. And while the two are friends, Leandra wishes that he'd take an active part in her revolutionary ideologies, as she believes he, being a member of the Fifth Cohort who has a less-than-influential position in the camp, is one of the many affected by the broken system.
💛 Emily Richardson 💛 "Em is a lovely girl, but she could benefit from a good de-brainwashing." Emily and Leandra are friends, primarily due to their shared common interests, as well as Leandra's friendship with Marco. Having said that, Leandra does believe that Emily's respect and admiration for their praetors is unfounded. Leandra considers both Emily and Marco to be among 'her people' given their objectively low status within the camp, but whenever she tries to rope them into her revolutionary beliefs, they don't seem at all interested. Whether or not she was just doing what she was told, Leandra doesn't know, and ultimately it doesn't matter, because that wasn't what earned her Leandra's respect. No, what earned her respect was the keen look that was ever-present in the young demigods' eye, subtle comments slid into conversations that displayed her intelligence, her level-headedness amongst her more impulsive peers. Her ambition. Kristin Reynolds is a cunning girl, and Leandra respects that.
🌓 Ezekiel Kel 🌓 "Darling, if I had any desire to manipulate you, you wouldn't dislike me, I can promise you that." Leandra's known guys like Zeke. Hell, she used to use guys like Zeke all the time. If she'd met the boy a few years earlier, she would've squeezed him for every drop he had. She'd always found angry, horny teenage boys to be the easiest prey. But she didn't, she met him here and now, and, as such, she's paid little attention to him and his apparent distrust of her.
👋 Marygold Isley 👋 "Berlin’s beautiful this time of year." Marygold and Leandra aren’t particularly close. Leandra’s been as friendly to Marygold as she has been to all the Greeks, though the two haven’t spent much one-on-one time together. Whenever she sees Marygold’s cat about, however, she tends to offer it what food she has with her.
👋 Kiera Donovan 👋 "Kiera, Poseidon's girl? She seems nice enough." Given the Leandra has tried to take on a sort of an ambassador role between the Greeks and the Romans, she's done her best to be friendly to Kiera, a sentiment that's been returned. The two aren't wildly close, but they seem to share the desire to stitch the divide between their peoples.
👋 Arthur Stanford 👋 "The Prince of Precious Stone...just keep the corpses away from me and we'll get along swimmingly." Leandra actually knew the Stanford family before she ever joined the Legion. Not personally, but her father numbered among their many investors, and she learned a lot about their business in her youth. She appreciates having someone of a similar background to her around, and, though she hasn't spent much time with him, she does see a bit of herself in the young boy.
🌓 Andy Crane 🌓 "Oh, Madalyne's ward? She seems like a sweet enough girl." Leandra doesn't really have an opinion on the young girl. She seems crafty, a fact that Leandra respects, but she doesn't know much beyond that. She can't help but feel a tad jealous though; she didn't even know she wanted an apprentice until she saw Mads teaching Andy that hoodoo of theirs.
💛 Demetri Howell 💛 "Misery acquaints a woman with strange bedfellows." Just looking at Leandra when she's in her normal orderly work mode, it would be easy to assume that she'd detest Demetri and his shenanigans, but that couldn't be more inaccurate. She rather likes the boy. He's unapologetically good, and is a breath of fresh air after the tension and headaches that came with her political career. He reminds her a lot of her less politically-minded friends back in the legion, like Marco and Em. With his rather at-ease nature, he's often able to coax her out of her duty-bound sobriety and make her act more human.
👋 Jason Gauger 👋 "Janelle’s brother? He’s certainly easy on the eyes." Leandra, perhaps unsurprisingly, finds the fit Jason Gauger to be quite attractive. He’s one of the many people Leandra likes to rest her eyes on after she’s been staring down at her notes for too long. That said, her feelings for him are purely physical - she hasn’t interacted with him all that much in her time at Camp Halfblood.
💛 Janelle Gauger 💛 "She’s a trusting girl. I earnestly hope that is not her undoing." Janelle responded better to Leandra’s friendliness and diplomacy than some of the more wary Greeks, a fact that led to something that could be called a friendship between them. Leandra will sometimes ask Janelle to use her powers to keep her awake when she has something or other she wants to get done before sleeping, and will repay that kindness by setting time aside to pick flowers for the younger girl. Janelle’s tendency to see the best in people means she’s less cautious of the charismatic Leandra than some others, something that Leandra doesn’t take lightly. She’s actually a bit protective of the girl - Janelle’s exactly the type of person Leandra would have used and thrown away without hesitation in the outside world, and she’s worried someone like her will take advantage of Janelle’s trust.
♨️💀 Madalyne Crane 💀♨️ "We may not be friends, but I have a knack for soothing the beast inside her." Largely due to Leandra's history of radically progressive politics and her and Nancy's rocky past, Leandra and Madalyne don't get along. That said, recent events have forced them to work closer than they'd usually prefer to. See, Leandra's abilities are naturally tailored to control others, which is invaluable to make sure Madalyne's new, more feral form doesn't get out of control.
♨️💀 Nancy Parker 💀♨️ "Hm? Can't this wait until we have New Rome back?" Leandra, as pragmatic with her passions as she is with every other aspect of her being, has found her rivalry with Nancy to be rather pointless in their new environment. Most of the energy she put into pushing against Nancy was of a political nature, and now that New Rome is a monster zoo, Leandra seems to be redirecting that energy into helping make sure the transition to Camp Half-Blood is as smooth as possible. When Nancy bites, she'll usually bite back, but oftentimes its in the same semi-distant manner with which one might talk to an acquaintance that one's drifting apart from.
🌓 Niah Bautista 🌓 "The Oathbinder? Let's see, I'm busy Tuesday, might be able to squeeze her in Wednesday? I don't want to rush her in case she has any complaints...Maybe Thursday then, yes, I can probably do Thursday..." Leandra holds as little ill will towards Niah as she ever has in spite of the company she keeps. With all that’s going on, her and Niah haven’t been working together as much as they used to. As such, Niah has faded into the crowd of Romans Leandra has been trying to play mama lion for since the exodus.
👋 Leda Storm 👋 "Ah, yes, the girl with the truthtelling tongue." Leandra has taken on a bit of an ambassadorial roll since coming to Camp Half-Blood, doing her best to smooth the tensions between the opposing factions. So she has done her best to be friendly towards all the Greeks, Leda included. And while they're not exactly friends, she does her best to be friendly. She might even one day get over all the dirt!
