Galaxies: Kingdom Come is rather your amalgamation of the usual space pulp genre tropes. Different regulations on technology vary with sector, but generally you can see the safest comparison in things like Buck Rogers, Battlestar Galactica (1978), Flash Gordon, Star Wars, and so on. There are various types of sci-fi armaments though your stock pulse/force, plasma, and thermal/energy are around; ballistics also are prevalent but are redacted by certain shield technologies. 

FTL and other warp function and would be explained throughout the role-play.
