You say that no one comes out, necromancers aside, but might they be [i]sent[/i] out? 

I can't help but wonder if the forest is, at some level, self-aware; whether that means it possesses humanoid sentience or some malevolent hive-mind is uncertain. I get the feeling that it's not-dissimilar from a large organism feeding off the death, fear, evil, and perhaps even infamy the gathers in and around it.

Point being, I've got an idea about two lost children who got spit back out years later, Jumanji-style. Maybe they found an old ritual site that sent them somewhere and they've finally made it back. Naturally, these no-longer kids would be [i]touched[/i] by their experiences; certainly, they would have to be to wanna go back.
