Pokemon Mystery Dungeon

Chapter 1: We're Adventurers!
Some background: One of my favorite Pokemon Mystery dungeon games is Explorers of Sky. In this game you are a human who has washed up on an island you've never seen or heard of before. You have amnesia, your name being the only thing that you can recall about yourself. You are approached by a very concerned looking pokemon ((I always picked Riolu at the start of the game so we'll go with that.)) Riolu asks you if you're okay and how you got here. It's at this point that you realize "Oh man, this pokemon is talking to me." Then, to make things even freakier, you realize that not only is this Riolu talking, but you yourself have turned into a pokemon. After your initial meeting the two of you become friends and you decide to join a pokemon adventuring guild with Riolu hoping to possibly find the key to your missing memories as you explore. Throughout the game you take various jobs that different pokemon give you in return for rewards and XP. The Vision: My vision for this Role-play is that it would be centered around our different characters joining a guild together for the first time and all of the ups and downs that come from adventuring together. For the sake of fairness, all of our characters would be starting off at the same level ((Level 5)). Experience Gain I spent quite some time thinking about how I was going to go about gaining xp and leveling up when we're all going to have different Pokemon with different types. In the video games, the amount of experience points you needed to level up differed from Pokemon to Pokemon depending on what their attack stats were. The table below details the required experience for each level based on a Pokémon's Level 1 Attack power.((source:Bulbapedia)) Level Experience to next level 30 Atk. 40 Atk. 50 Atk. 60 Atk. 70 Atk. 80 Atk. 90 Atk. 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 2 50 55 60 65 70 75 80 3 100 110 120 130 140 150 160 4 150 165 180 195 210 225 240 5 150 165 180 195 210 225 240 6 450 495 540 585 630 675 720 7 750 825 900 975 1050 1125 1200 8 900 990 1080 1170 1260 1350 1440 9 1050 1155 1260 1365 1470 1575 1680 10 1200 1320 1440 1560 1680 1800 1920 11 1350 1485 1620 1755 1890 2025 2160 12 1050 1155 1260 1365 1470 1575 1680 13 1500 1650 1800 1950 2100 2250 2400 14 1800 1980 2160 2340 2520 2700 2880 15 2100 2310 2520 2730 2940 3150 3360 16 2250 2475 2700 2925 3150 3375 3600 17 2400 2640 2880 3120 3360 3600 3840 18 2550 2805 3060 3315 3570 3825 4080 19 2700 2970 3240 3510 3780 4050 4320 20 3000 3300 3600 3900 4200 4500 4800 To find out what your Pokemon's attack power would be, a great source to look at is https://pokemondb.net/pokedex/ . I know that it seems complicated, but to me this was the most fair way to go about leveling up since our Pokemon are going to have their different strengths and weaknesses based off of what type they are. As far as gaining experience goes, once our Pokemon have been accepted into the guild we will be embarking on different missions together. Experience can be gained in two different ways: 1.) Upon completion of a mission everyone in the party will receive the same amount of experience points depending on the difficulty of the mission completed. 2.)Experience points can also be earned while we are inside of dungeons from battling other Pokemon we encounter. Our group will be functioning off of an Exp. share system, meaning that if one of us defeats a Pokemon while on a mission, the entire group will gain experience from the encounter. However, any Pokemon who don't participate in the battle will only get half of the gained exp. points. How much experience is earned from a Pokemon battle depends on what level the Pokemon we fought was in relation to our level. So if we fought a Level 1 Pokemon and we were Level 5, we wouldn't gain very much experience. Whereas if we fought a level 8 we would gain more experience. Battle System As far as a battle system goes for this RP, for the sake of trying to keep things simple I'm only going to allow each of our Pokemon to have two different moves for now. What moves your Pokemon have will be up to you, but you must make sure that the moves you decide for your Pokemon fits into its type category. It wouldn't make sense if Charmander was able to use water pulse or if Pikachu only knew rock type moves. Essentially, just use common sense. I would recommend looking up your Pokemon's available move sets online when deciding.((once again the Pokemon Database is a great resource for this, or just google)). Also keep in mind that certain moves might not be available to your Pokemon until you've reached a specific level or you've evolved. The team will decide together who they want to go first/who will sit what out, etc. Most likely this will be based off of Pokemon type ((i.e you wouldn't put a Fire Pokemon up against a Water type)). As GM I am going to be monitoring battles/manipulating what Pokemon appear where, etc. When a Pokemon encounter happens I will provide stats of the Pokemon including their HP/Level/Type to our group. To decide whether the wild Pokemon or the team will get to make the first move, whoever the team has decided will be attacking first will have to institute a dice roll. As GM I will also do a dice roll for the wild Pokemon/I will role-play as our opponent while in battle. Whoever rolls higher will get to make the first move. After that the battle will function as it normally would in any game: you choose your attack, deal damage up to their max HP, win the battle. As far as critical hits/status conditions go on Pokemon those will also involve dice rolls as the situation calls for. To summarize battles: -We all start off as Level 5, first form Pokemon. -Each Pokemon gets 2 moves, within their Pokemon's level/type range. -The team decides together who will go against what Pokemon depending on Pokemon type/level. -Exp. gained from Pokemon battles will depend on Pokemon levels in relation to each other -The battle will start off with a dice roll on both sides to see who goes first(the higher roll gets first move) -Critical hits/status conditions will also require dice rolls -The battle ends when either everyone in the party has fainted or the enemies have fainted -It is an exp. share system, meaning that everyone in the group gains experience from Pokemon battles. Those who don't participate will only gain half experience. -GM controls all enemy Pokemon in battles. -If you actually read through all this please include your favorite food in your character creation. Crystal Bay is a rather small island, but despite its size has a surprisingly large population. It's known for being something of a Pokemon paradise to those who live there. The only problem is that there aren't any other land structures for several hundred miles, so pretty much everyone who inhabits the Island has been there since birth. Things have been peaceful for a very long time now and the Island's guilds are to thank for that. Hundreds of brave Pokemon serve different guilds around the Island, doing any task big or small to keep the Pokemon of Crystal Bay happy, safe, and content. Pokemon who have joined such guilds are seen almost like local celebrities and almost everyone has dreamt of being apart of one at some point. That said, getting into a Pokemon guild is no easy feat. Most guilds require that you complete a test of courage before you can even apply. Because of this, there's a very high rejection rate for guilds across the Island. For some it can even take years before they are finally accepted. Nonetheless your Pokemon are determined to join the Charizard Adventuring Guild, no matter the cost! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Below is the character sheet for this role-play. I ask that you please post it in the OOC first and then once it is accepted you may then move it over to the Characters section. Name: Gender: Pokemon: Pokemon Type(rock, electric, water, etc.): Pokemon Move set(only two for now please): Personality Traits: History: Experience Points(this will be updated as the Role-play continues,I'll let you know what to put here once your CS has been accepted): Level(We will all be starting off at 5): Other: I think that this RP is going to be a lot of fun :) If you have any questions please feel free to ask, I know that this is a lot of information.
