Jinny hopped up from the table and followed, and what she saw next thrilled her to no end. First, a secret passage in the garage – super awesome! Then, what could only be a superhero suit! She had so many questions. She stalled at that for some time, simply staring at it, before she remembered she was supposed to be following. When they stopped, she was bouncing with excitement. This was going to be the best school! When Slade started to speak, she listened with rapt attention. She didn’t fully understand everything, but she got the gist of it. Her eyes watched the darts land in the dummy, one right after the other in a neat little line. She was going to learn that? Very cool. “Yes, I am ready.” She stopped bouncing and took the dart from him, rolling it between her little hands. “Okay. I can do this.” She studied the target and without warning, she threw the dart. It bounced off of the dummy and hit the ground with a metallic tinkle. “Aw man...” Not one to give up quickly, she picked up the dart and threw it again. And again. And again! Each time it got a little closer to the target, but it wouldn’t stick. Jinny went from excitement, to irritation, to a little ball of girl fury. But she still wasn’t going to give up. If she failed at lesson one, then how was she going to get stronger at all? She rolled the dart in her hands again, dark eyes staring down the target. Then, unblinking, she slowly tipped her head to the left, then to the right. “Oh. I get it.” Then, lips moving as if she were working something out, she took a step backward, exhaled, and launched the dart once more, with her whole body behind it. This time, it stuck right beside Slade’s. “That’s better.” And she looked up to him for approval.
