It was a minor inconvenience, certainly, but Ava wasn’t too annoyed. A tall woman with long, dark hair approached the table Ava was seated at, though she pretended not to notice until she spoke. Ava’s body was kept rigid, her face still directed towards the pages of her book, allowing only her eyes to shift up to the stranger. She allowed a slightly uncomfortable pause to linger as she stared at her, as if gears were turning in her head in an attempt to understand the question, before averting her gaze to scan around the cafe. Fair enough, it seemed that many of the other seats were taken by groups of students, study groups or whatnot. Ava didn’t much want the company of others, but decided to be courteous anyway. Her expression relaxed somewhat, “Please, go ahead.” With that, she returned her gaze to the novel.
