Name - Anari Sato Race - Human Faction - New Republic Character Alignment - Neutral-Good Character Background - Born a twin from a pair of Mandalorian warriors belonging to Clan Vorne, Anari grew up under harsh tutelage on Mandalore. If she wasn’t at play with her sibling and friends, she was learning to fight. Her nights were spent reciting codes and creeds and learning about their history as a people. Their loyalty to House Kryze went back beyond the Clone Wars; she understood the vows her family put into place when it came to provide them with warm bodies and unmatched discipline. She fought alongside her family and other vassals of House Kryze when the Empire came to conquer, but in the end Mandalore as they knew it was lost. With heavy hearts, depleted ammunition, melting blasters and vibroblades stained with Imperial blood, they were forced to flee their home and go underground like so many other survivors of their kind. Forming a hidden enclave with over two dozen survivors joined during their escape, Anari’s family bided their time. They took up roles as mercenaries in the Outer Rim, gathering credits and building a network of trusted spies and associates to locate other estranged Mandalorians like themselves. The process demanded their patience, something Anari had little of at the time. Word of the Rebellion eventually reached them; Anari wished to fight back against the Empire, but her family refused the call to action. Without aid in reclaiming Mandalore, they would not take up arms and fight with the Rebel Alliance. Since the Alliance couldn’t hope to make a major strike at the time, her family and fellow survivors showed indifference for the growing movement. Seeking to avenge their fallen, Anari confronted her family in the sanctity of their enclave and firmly asked that they take up arms with the Rebel Alliance; not all, but at least some could manage to remind the Empire that the Mandalorians were still alive—that they haven’t won yet. The destruction of a massive battle station over Yavin coupled with word of Mandalorians striking against them would add salt to their wounds. None stood with her. Their unity was their strength, she was told, and so nursing their wounds and building up their armaments as they searched for their fellow survivors took precedence over vengeance. Coming to blows with her father over what she believed was cowardice, she was defeated with the edge of a vibroblade pressed against her throat. Her fire never faded and upon seeing that her will to fight only grew with her defeat, her father allowed her to leave. In exchange for walking away from their people and joining the Rebel Alliance unharmed, Anari promised to leave her armor behind, never openly identify as Mandalorian, and surrender her family name ‘Vorne’ until she returned to them. Deeming those terms more than fair and saying one final goodbye to her mother and father, her brother handed her personal items off and turned away without another word. Among her weaponry and credits was a vambrace she recognized as her fathers. A part of him would be with her always. It encouraged her to follow through with her desires, and she set off alone with a personal promise to return once she'd done enough for her people. Anari found her way in the Alliance’s service two years before Endor where she worked as an intelligence gatherer and infiltrator. She worked tirelessly to deliver information to and from rebel cells and has been the deliverer of death of several high-ranking Imperial targets. Under the fake surname Sato, she conceals her true origin from her peers as demanded by her father. As far as anyone in the Alliance knew, she was just a sixteen-year-old girl with nothing left to lose. And it helped that she came with training that put her fellow recruits to shame. Now, five years after the death of the Emperor and Darth Vader, she works to put into motion an all-out assault on her homeworld and free it from the Empire’s grip once and for all. Character Personality – Anari was raised as a warrior first and a woman second. She walks with a purpose and stands tall under any circumstance, carrying the burden of her decisions with her always. She isn’t much for idle conversation and awkward introductions, instead choosing to get it out of the way quickly so she can continue to do what she deems most important. She has few friends and those she does make have learned that she is all about business, with pleasure an afterthought. Because of the fall of Mandalore at the hands of the Empire, she’s adopted a strong anti-Imperial stance. She watched as unarmed citizens fled for their lives only to be cut down by Imperial forces, enraging her to this day. Viewing the entire faction with contempt, she will never willingly give an Imperial the benefit of the doubt and will often choose to execute them regardless of making terms of surrender. If a mission does not explicitly state that a VIP must be secured, she will kill any and all between her and the objective if possible. Serving five years in the Rebel Alliance turned New Republic, Anari’s reputation for getting results also earned her a reputation for not getting along well with others. Operating independently from her fellow agents for most of her time serving, those that did work along with her took notice of how frighteningly quiet she grew. Every word she uttered was brief and to the point, and she did not hesitate to scold them for slow responses, poor communication, and abysmal shots. She is critical of others as much as she is herself, and will not hesitate in pointing out how slow, how inaccurate, or just how useless an ally proves to be. Despite her disdain for poor performance, she will never willingly leave a comrade to die because of it. In the heat of battle, she acts with precision; every shot must count, every word is brief yet firm, and every movement calculated. No matter the odds and no matter how bleak things might seem, Anari will not give up, even if every option and avenue has been exhausted. While other operatives may need downtime after particularly intense operations, she will return to base and ask for other assignments. Should none be available, she will undergo personal drills to keep her skills sharpened to a lethal degree. Her idea of “fun” is preparing for her next assignment. Unknown to most, she possesses a soft spot for children and will act out of character around one. Smiling, showing interest in their life, and extraordinarily protective of them, she will shift goals and mission parameters around should one be in danger. Character's Physical description - Anari is a lithe woman of 5’9, built strong from rigorous training and years of combat. Her skin is tough to the touch with lean muscle beneath every fiber of skin, often hidden behind her choice of clothing or armor. She wears whatever is required of her for operations, but often sticks to an olive-colored jacket with a black sleeveless shirt beneath it; dark pants and boots complete the rest of her casual wear, leaving her unassuming. She does not carry any items that would lead one to believe she belongs to the Rebel Alliance from afar, allowing no symbols to adorn her choice of wear. Equipment such as holsters and blades are equipped on an operation by operation basis. Supporting Characters - Clan Vorne and “The Enclave” – Her family and fellow survivors of the Purge. While not having left on the best terms, there was a wordless assurance when she departed to join the Rebel Alliance: if she needed them, they would come. Looking back on how she acted before she departed, Anari has denied herself the right to call her family and people to her aid and has resolved never to need to. Shame prevents her from reaching out. She hopes only to call and inform them that the time to reclaim Mandalore is close. Rogue Squadron – One of the most legendary fighter squadrons in the galaxy, Anari’s numerous operations during raids on Imperial strongholds has allowed her the great honor to work with the best of the best. While not best friends with Wedge Antilles himself, Anari has gotten to know some of his unit and keeps in close contact with a couple of them. If they need eyes on the ground, she is theirs to call. And if she needs some firepower from the skies, they’re happy to become available to her. Suri Han – A former slave turned Rebel Alliance hero, this blue-skinned Twi’lek shares the same ferocity and fighting spirit as Anari. Operating as both a fighter ace and a fellow infiltrator, Suri works to to arrange prison breaks and eliminate slave trading operations. A strong believer in equality for all races in the galaxy, the notion of human superiority disgusts her. Everyone provides something.
