Katherine learned the truth of this small aphorism the hard way when she was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy. Suddenly, the body to which she had paid relatively little attention to, gave up on her - and continued to so. At first, she went on with her life as if nothing was different, but soon she could feel strength gradually leaving her body. Eventually, she was reduced to a wheelchair, and ultimately, to a single hospital bed. At her worst she could barely dress herself - let alone take care of herself. For a girl who had always prided herself in her independence, this was intensely humiliating. 

Katherine kept herself busy with drawing and video games to distract herself when she was not resting - but eventually even this became hard for her weakened body. Fortunately for her, VRMMO were not the only thing that made striving advances in recent history. Less and less diseases can now resist modern science - this included her particular condition. Recovery, on the other hand, would be long. Rehabilitation would not happen overnight. Her convalescence coincided with the boom of Cacophony Concord and she began to play whenever she was not sleeping or having therapy. It became something of an obsession for her. For one - the level of immersion was nothing like she had ever experienced. She crafted for herself a body that would not rot away, that would not give up on her - a body that could jump higher, run faster, and hit harder than any flesh could ever bear. 

Raged with a thirst for life fueled by an existence confined to a bed, when seeing her pale and malnourished body, you'd never think that she was an adventurous, thrill-seeker. Online, Katherine is different from her typical self; less introverted and aloof, and more outgoing, straightforward, and energetic.[/INDENT][/HIDER]
